BUBOY FERNANDEZ DENIES REPORTS ABOUT ROACH BEING UPSET WITH PACQUIAO By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Fri, 09 Nov 2012 MANILA(PNA)- No, there?s no truth to reports that trainer Freddie Roach got angry when prized pupil Manny Pacquiao failed to do his routine roadwork Saturday morning. ?Hindi tutoo na nagalit si coach Freddie noong hindi nakatakbo si Manny noong Sabado,? assistant trainer Buboy Fernandez asserted in a telephone conversation yesterday. (It is not true that coach Freddie was upset when Manny did not do his road work last Saturday.) ?Sparring day kasi that day at kapag ganun, talagang malimit hindi kami nagro-roadwork. Matindi ang sparring sessions at masyadong mapipiga si Manny kung tatakbo sa umaga tapos mag-sparring pa sa hapon.? (It was a sparring day and we seldom do road work because the sparring sessions are tough and Manny will be very drained if he runs in the morning and spar in the afternoon.) ?True, Manny, sometimes runs kahit may sparring, pero discretion nya yun. Kung marami siyang kailangang sunuging taba sa katawan, takbo siya. Pero kung pakiramdam nya masyado siyang mapapagod, di sya tumatakbo,? Fernandez added. (It is true that Manny sometimes runs when he spars but that is his discretion. If he feels he needs to and has a lot to burn then he runs, but if he feels that it will make him very tired, then he won?t.) ?Freddie knows that. In fact, Manny surprised him later that afternoon when he sparred with three partners for eight rounds,? he said in reference to Ray Beltran, Russian Suhrab Shidaev and an Armenian fighter whose name he could not remember. ?Si Freddie mismo doesn?t require him to do the roadwork if there?s sparring scheduled for the day . ?It.s no big deal really. Me pinaghahandaan tayong malaking laban at walang me gustong masunog ang boksingero natin. Fernandez echoed Roach?s observation that the eight-division world champion, who will be meeting Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth on December 8 (December 9 in Manila) has kept on improving each day of his training ats the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles. ?Paganda nang paganda ang kinikilos ni Manny habang dumadaan ang mga araw. One week pa lang kami dito sa Wild Card, ang dami nang improvement na nakikita sa kanya,? he disclosed. ?Even some of the visitors who are lucky enough to watch our closed door sessions are impressed with what Manny is dishing out while sparring and doing the mitts with Freddie. Fernandez was referring to Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera, who has been in LA since last Monday to make an interview with Pacquiao for the television program he is hosting in Mexico, Filipino flyweight champion Brian Viloria, a permanent figure at the Vince Street sweat shop since the camp started and even basketball star Jojo Lastimosa who visited Pacquiao Wednesday. Viloria, the World Boxing Organization flyweight champion, incidentally, will face World Boxing Association 112-pound belt owner Hernan ?Tyson? Marquez in a unification encounter on November 18 at the LA Sports Arena. Fernandez described Pacquiao?s in Tuesday?s eight-round skirmish with his three sparmates as the most impressive in the camp?s eight days in LA. ?Pinakamaganda yung suntukan kahapon. No holds bar yung tatlo at ganun din si Manny. Malalakas talaga ang bigayan at tuwang-tuwa si Freddie at si Manny himself sa nangyari,? Fernandez related. Pacquiao sparred with Beltran and Shidaev for three rounds each and two with the Armenian fighter, who he described as a walk-in volunteer to help the ?Fighter of the Decade? in his preparations.
