EX-HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP RAHMAN VOWS TO KO POVETKIN By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Thu, 27 Sep 2012 Hasim Rahman. Former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman (50-7-2, 41 KOs) appeared in good shape as his title fight against undefeated WBA champion Alexander Povetkin (24-0, 16 KO?s) inched closer. Reports following Rahman?s public workout at the Europa Passage in Hamburg indicated there?s ?no secret, that Rahman possesses some serious pop in his fists? although he was, as expected, fashionably late. However, when the media and fight fans saw Rahman work out he did so with a bang even as he looked in much better condition than he was some weeks ago. As the 39 year old hammered the pads it was clear that even the reigning champion Povetkin would have been impressed by those powerful jabs and hooks the challenger put on display. Rahman who scored one of the biggest upsets in boxing when he knocked out heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis in a title fight in South Africa has vowed to win by a knockout when he tangles with Povetkin on a fight to be telecast on the popular weekly boxing show ?Big Time Bakbakan? at 12:00 noon on Sunday over AKTV IBC 13. Fight News reported that Povetkin took a lot of time out of his schedule to give the waiting spectators a real show. In the former Triple-Champion Kostya Tszyu, he has a coach who knows how to keep the masses entertained. ?I am not a fan of big announcements?, said the Hall-of-Famer. ?But Alexander has been training hard. There is no reason why he should not be able to present himself in top-shape.? And that was exactly what he did during the public workout: Warm-up, rope skipping, shadowboxing and finally hitting the pads. ?I am looking forward to a great fight on Saturday night,? said the Champion and continued: ?I don?t expect this bout to be easy.?
