NEW NGO GROUP AIMS TO AID IN BOXING DEVELOPMENT IN THE COUNTRY By Rich Mazon PhilBoxing.com Mon, 03 Sep 2012 A non-profit, non-governmental organization composed of members from the private sector who are already involved in the sport of boxing has been formed recently. The Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) -International Group has been organized to aid in the national boxing development of the country. One of their plans include the recruitment of Filipino-American, Filipino-Canadian or any Filipino amateur boxers who are based outside of the country that can be tapped to play for the country in various international competitions, the Olympics included. They are particularly interested on individuals who can campaign at a higher weight class category of 54 kilograms to 81 kilogram class that were sorely missing in the pool of national talents. It also aims to raise funds for the development of various local programs intended to improve the current amateur boxing program in the Philippines. The facilitators of the group include, Noel "Noah" Deyto, businessman from Texas and Manila, current President and CEO of Gold Rank Boxing Promotions, Inc. and the incumbent President of ABAP- Las Pinas Chapter, Gilbert Artificio, Secretary General of ABAP - NCR Group which is under the umbrella organization of the Manuel V. Pangilinan (MVP) Foundation headed by Ricky Vargas and Jayjay Vargas, Head of ABAP-NCR Group. ?The ABAP-IG will not be an obstacle to the sports program of Philippine Sports Commissions headed by Chairman Ricardo Garcia, wherein boxing is one of its priority sports to be funded. It will not be intervening with the current plan of ABAP - Headquarters' Executive Director Ed Picson but rather support them, our boxer?s need, and somehow contribute to the betterment of the ABAP Family in whatever form we can possibly arranged.? Deyto said. ?The formation of ABAP-IG is an initiated by a group of people who are already involved in the amateur boxing industry. We want to assist in the preparation for the forthcoming 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.? Deyto added. Deyto is hoping that the group will attract more members and support from the private sector who share the same ideals. They are optimistic that the group can be a positive addition to the country?s amateur boxing scene. The group will be registered with the Philippine Securities and Exchange Commission to further legitimize its standing. Photo: From left: Gilbert Artificio, Director and Sec.
