Thailand's Teeparith Defends WBA Belt Against Ex Champ Nobuo Nashiro Tomorrow in Osaka By Carlos Costa PhilBoxing.com Fri, 31 Aug 2012  Thailand's Teeparith Kokietgym, arguably the world's best 115 pounder is back in action. WBA super flyweight world champion Teeparith Kokietgym will make the third defense of his prestigious black/golden belt against tough veteran Japanese former champion Nobuo Nashiro tomorrow (Sept 1) at the Sumiyoshi Sports Center in Osaka, Japan. The clash will mark Teeparith's (20-2, 13KO's) third consecutive fight Japan after clear wins over over top rated former champs Daiki Kameda and Tomonobu Shimizu, fights attended by this Philboxing writer, in which the "The Spice Kid" Teeparith displayed his aggressive style of combat based on pressure and non-stop action. On the other corner, challenger former champ and the current WBA worlds #10 Nobuo Nashiro gets into this title match after three consecutive wins over second class opponent in Osaka. Nashiro's most competitive battle within last year was his lost by points to former champ Suriyan Sor Rungvisai at the National Stadium Gymnasium in Bangkok, another title fight attended by Philboxing.    The Suriyan-Nashiro clash, which took place during dreadful floods lashing the Thai capital, put in evidence that the 30 year-old Nashiro might not be the fearsome relentless warrior he was when he captured the WBA super flyweight title against Martin Castillo back in July of 2006. Nevertheless, if experience and guts and a big heart have something to do in boxing, then the good old Osaka boy Nobuo Nashiro (18-4-1, 12KO's) could never been counted out. A TRAGEDY IN NOBUO NASHIRO'S LIFE A day Nobuo Nashiro will never forget: April 3, 2005. Seven years ago. That day the young and enthusiastic Nobuo Nashiro fought the Japanese Super flyweight champion Seiji Tanaka. Nashiro and Tanaka had sparred and trained together so they new each other well. Their unforgettable fight went on with extreme violence till the final stretches in which the powerful Nashiro delivered severe blows that pulverized Takana, defeating him in round ten, capturing the Japanese national title. Applauses went to new young Nashiro. But Unfortunately, Tanaka went into a deep coma and forty eight hours later the brave Tanaka died. A feeling of guilt sent Nashiro into a deep sadness. He thought of retirement and stayed away from boxing till the day Nashiro talked to Senji Tanaka's dad. Tanaka's father told Nobuo Nashiro that the death of his son was not his fault and asked him to continue in the sport he loved. Then, Nashiro visited the grave of Tanaka at the Tottori cemetery where he has gone to pay his respects. Nashiro has come to terms with what happened that fateful night in 2005, but has never forgotten. Life has gone on and tomorrow Nashiro will have another chance to become world champion again. THE YOUNG WORLD CHAMPION TEEPARITH CONFIDENT It's not known if the young champion Teeparith knows the sad chapter in the life of Nashiro. But Teeparith is confident that he will defeat the veteran Japanese warrior. In fact, in his wins in Japan, Teeparish has looked confident and at easy during the presscons, weight-in and the fight itself, evidence that the spice kid has gotten used to being a world champion and scoring victories away from his native land of Thailand. Yesterday's presscon in Osaka was no exception. Teeparith looked good and focused, so was Nashiro. One of the photos of Teeparith's in this column corresponds to Teeparith's latest win. It was taken by this author when Teeparith was declared winner by knockout over Shimizu in Yokohama. It shows the young world champion confident and on the top of his game. At only 23 years of age Teeparith has already completed one year as a world champion and is recognized by many analysts as the top 115 lbs of the moment and he is willing to stay on the top of the super flyweight division for a long shot.
