CEBU TIMEX RUN 2012 By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Mon, 20 Aug 2012 CEBU CITY ? The very popular running family of celebrities Anthony Pangilinan and Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan graced the 2012 Timex Run here last August 12, 2012. The run was organized by RunRio of famous running coach Rio dela Cruz, who also attended the race. The start was at the Osme?a Boulevard in front of the Cebu Normal University (CNU) and finished at the Cebu City Sports Center. The 16K category started at 5:15 A.M., the 10K at 5:30 A.M. and the 5K at 5:45 A.M. The 5K run went through Osme?a Boulevard, to Fuente Osme?a, to the Cebu Provincial Capitol, to V. Rama Avenue, turned to B. Rodriguez Street, back to Osme?a Boulevard, then finished at the Cebu City Sports Center. The 10K event went to N. Bacalso Avenue from V. Rama Avenue, turning around at Mambaling, then returned to the Cebu City Sports Center. The 16K route went further at N. Bacalso Avenue, turning to Padilla Street at the South Reclamation Project, going back to N. Bacalso, then heading towards the finish at the Cebu City Sports Center. The Pangilinan family joined the race to motivate family consciousness of fitness through running and exercise. The Timex run was intended for beginners, fitness enthusiast, athletes and casual runners. I joined the 5K group with my wife Chona for fun, fitness and friendship. ?One of our main goals was to entice more families to adopt a healthy lifestyle and get into running together and so far we have been successful as there are families and first-timers who signed up for the event,? said Cebu organizer Ricky Ballesteros. Kenyan Douglas Mwiti topped the men?s 16K while Mary Joy Tabal ruled the 16K women's open category. Mwiti finished with 54 minutes and 50 seconds. Robert Daang placed second in 57:37 while Paul James Zafico was third with 59:45. Tabal finished the race in one hour, five minutes and 55 seconds. Joeyry Lee clocked 1:13:29 for second place, while triathlete Amale Mendezona-Jopson arrived in 1:21:16 for third spot. Another Kenyan Abraham Missos dominated the men's 10K in 34 minutes and five seconds. Mendel Lopez finished second in 34 minutes and 57 seconds, while Riez Enriquez was third in 35:11. Mary Grace de los Santos topped the women's 10K in 39 minutes and 52 seconds. Lovely Fe Andrin was second in 42:27, while Kisha Mae Delechos finished third in 44:51. The top three finishers in the men's 5K category were Joebert Carolino (17 mins.), Jorry Ycong (17:02) and John Daryl Maros (17:04), while the top three in the women?s 5K run were Cherry Andrin (20:52), Aiza Suaybaguio (21:20) and Jhoan Andrin (22:10). The top three winners in the 16K open category received P7,000, P5,000, and P3,000, respectively. For the top three in the 10K division won P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000, respectively. The top three in the 5K class got P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000. In addition to the cash prizes, they all received brand new Timex Ironman watches, while the champion in each category got additional Skechers shoes. The run attracted a good number of entries even though another big running event was held on the same day, the Run For Sight-initiated Cebu Doctors? University Run. The Timex Run was marred by an accident. Two Manila-based runners running the 16K were hit at Barangay Mambaling by a vehicle driven by an election official.
