SILVANO AND CABILLA CLASH FOR PBF TITLE JULY 29

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU ? The vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight title will be disputed by Virgilio ?Maton? Silvano of the Omega Boxing Gym of Cebu and Charlie Cabilla of Bukidnon this Sunday at the J Centre Mall in Mandaue City.

The 22 year old Silvano (11W-2L-1D, 6 KO?s) is an up and coming prospect who has set his sights on bigger things after an excellent learning experience as a sparring partner of former WBC lt.flyweight champion Rodel Mayol and current IBF lt.flyweight champion Johnriel Casimero. Silvano?s two losses happened in his first year as a pro.

Cabilla (12W-10L-4D, 2 KO?s) will try to bounce back from losing to Jerson Mancio in his challenge for the GAB recognized Philippine lt. flyweight title last May. Silvano weighed in at 107.75 lbs while Cabilla was half a pound over the 108 lb. division limit on his first try but he easily shed off the excess weight. They are penned to fight for ten rounds.

The supporting main event will be a non-title ten rounder between Jason Canoy (14W-3L-1D, 9 KO?s) of the Omega gym and Ryan Bongcawil (5W-3L-1D, 2 KO?s) of Bukidnon. Canoy is coming off a tough majority decision loss to fellow local prospect Welbeth Loberanis.

Bongcawil is best remembered by Cebu boxing fans for decking undefeated ALA gym prospect Roma Rate in the second round but had to settle for a draw in their six round fight held last year at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino. Bongcawil won his last bout by majority decision against Arlon Batingal in Agusan del Norte. Canoy and Bongcawil both stepped in at 113 lbs.

The preliminary bouts will feature former national amateur champion Jack ?Golden Boy? Tepora in a six rounder against JR Salvador. Tepora has won all three of his pro fights so far by the short route. Both weighed in at the flyweight limit of 112 lbs.

Also set to see action are Jordan Catubay vs Sherwin Caday ? 6 rounds, Charly Pucdol vs Jerome Casas ? 6 rounds and Jhaleel Payao vs Rommel Banquirigo ? 6 rounds.

The official weigh-in was held at the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) ? Cebu office supervised by Celso Miranda. The fights will be at the J Centre?s convention hall. Fight time is at 7 PM.
