CABALQUINTO SCHOOLS IGNACIO, PALICTE STOPS OYAN IN APARRI

PhilBoxing.com

Aparri, Cagayan- Adonis "The Undertaker" Cabalquinto schooled veteran Jaypee Ignacio for ten lopsided rounds in the Main Event of the Dinnanogan Ditoy Aparri thus improving his perfect record to W12(KO8)-L0-D0. A much improved Cabalquinto fought before a full house Aparri Public Gym showcasing multiple combinations to the head and body of the very durable Ignacio. Despite the relentless battering, the brave Waray warrior Ignacio refused to kiss the canvass and kept fighting until the final bell. The judges scored the fight unanimously 99-91, 100-90, 98-92 all in favor of the RP Light Welterweight Champion.

Meanwhile, former WBC International Champion Vincent "Popeye" Palicte of Jason Soong's Planet Jupiter Stable battered a very game Ricky Oyan for three round before knocking him out for good in round four wherein Oyan was knocked down once before going down for good courtesy of a flurry of combinations to the head by Palicte.

In the curtain raiser professional bout, pro-boxing debutantes Rechie Behec and Jestoni Racuma shared a majority draw in a four round war. Both fighters exchanged power shots punishing each other at an even scale. In the end, the judges scored it fair for both warriors and awarded them a draw. The event was also supported by eight amateur bouts which thrilled the cheerful crowd of Aparri.

It must be noted that the event was the first after so many years.Aparri Town Mayor, Brigadier General Ismael Tumaru, M.D. gave the boxing event to his beloved Aparrianos as his gift for their town fiesta and stated that boxing will be back and alive in the town of Aparri. Mayor Tumaru even committed that the local government will allocate budget for a grassroots level amateur boxing development program in the Municipality. Also to the surprise of this scribe, the Aparri Public Gym was a full house for the event. People came even from the far flung Barangays to watch boxing. It was a sight to behold comparable the boxing fights in Cebu and considering that tickets were sold to the viewing public. It was an outstanding show of support to boxing indeed.

The barn burner event was organized by Joven Sports Promotions headed by Joven Jimenez, presented by the Municipal Government of Aparri headed by Mayor Ismael Tumaru M.D. with the facilitation of Municipal Assessor and Administrator Julius Catral. The event was well attended by the the local government officials, the Vice-Mayor and his SB Members and the Barangay Captains of Aparri. Also in attendance was Australia based promoter Joel Ostria and the GAB team headed by Virgilio de los Reyes and Leonado Trinidad.
