Somodio eager to join Team Pacquiao in L.A.

PhilBoxing.com

All the documents needed for boxing trainer Marvin Somodio to be granted a working visa have been submitted so he can re-join Team Pacquiao in the final leg of his training in Los Angeles.

Somodio himself attested to this, saying Team Pacquiao staffers in L.A. might have been burning all lines for him to be able to re-join the World Boxing Organization welterweight champion in his preparation for his title-fight against Timothy Bradley at the Wild Card Gym in downtown Hollywood.

Somodio had been tapped to replace erstwhile strength and conditioning trainer Alex Ariza after the latter abandoned the Pacquiao?s Baguio training camp almost a month ago.

He was supposed to follow the team last Monday but was denied a visa by the United States Embassy in Manila following an organizational mess up. Pacquiao and group, including chief trainer Freddie Roach left for the U.S. Saturday last week.

It turned out that because of a long procedure in securing a working permit, people in Team Pacquiao in charge of travel requirements applied instead for a tourist visa to facilitate his departure.

?They sent me all the documents I am supposed to fill up via email and I sent them back to them yesterday,? Somodio said Friday during the SCOOP Sa Kamayan session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura.

?Hopefully, matatapos ang processing early next week, so I can join the team and help in the strength and conditioning aspect of Congressman Manny?s training,? Somodio said during the forum, sponsored by Powerade, ACTV and FILA.

?Sabagay, wala namang nawala kasi nandun na rin si Alex at siyang nagha-handle ng training,? the 28-year-old Somodio a member of the coaching staff of Shape Up stable at the Cooyeesan Hotel in Baguio said.

Somodio attended the SCOOP session along with Shape Up stable manager Anson Tiu Co and fighter Macrea Gandionco, a light-flyweight who will be fighting in the undercard of the Brian Viloria-Omar Nino Romero flyweight championship bout today.

Gandiongco, a young, up-and-coming campaigner from Cagayan de Oro City, is eyeing his fifth straight victory when he faces Mac Canecio over eight rounds. His four early victories, include two knockouts.
