KAMEDA BROTHERS SIZZLE AT WAKEE SALUD?S GYM

PhilBoxing.com

Labangon, Cebu City ? Intense, fan friendly gym wars heated up Rex ?Wakee? Salud?s Gym Tuesday afternoon highlighted by the fiery six round session between WBA world bantamweight champion Koki Kameda of Japan and local prospect Marco Demecillo Singwancha. Both boxers did not pull their punches and landed hard shots to the body and head which elicited cheers and applause from the other boxers and trainers who keenly watched the proceedings.

Koki Kameda is preparing for his title defense this April 4 against Nouldy Manakane of Indonesia. Local fans may remember Manakane as having lost to AJ Banal in Bohol in 2009. His fight against Manakane will be held in Yokohama.

Demecillo is eyeing the Philippine superflyweight title currently held by Marvin Mabait.

Former WBA world flyweight champion Daiki Kameda, Koki?s brother, had a torrid three round session with up and coming Romnick Magos. Both boxers were impressive with their powerful but well placed punches. Daiki, who knocked out Raul Hidalgo of Mexico in a single round last year, is penned to face Pompetch Twins Gym of Thailand in the same card in Yokohama April 4.

Magos is coming off an impressive ten round unanimous decision win over Roemart Sentillas last month.

The Kameda brothers also sparred with former WBC lt.flyweight champion Rodel Mayol last week. Promoter Rex ?Wakee? Salud informed philboxing that the Japanese duo will return to their home country Wednesday for the final phase of their preparations for scheduled matches. They have been here in Cebu for more than a week.

SUICO AND SONSONA ALSO SEEN AT THE RWS GYM

Randy ?Kumong Bato? Suico spent Tuesday afternoon sparring with former Philippine lt.welterwieght titlist Eusebio Baluarte to prepare for his return to the ring. The 32 year old Suico told philboxing that he is scheduled to fight again in Japan for a non-title contest this April 15. Suico, a former amateur standout here in Cebu, has won Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) titles in three different weight divisions. He lost in his lone world title shot six years ago against Juan Diaz.

Suico hit the heavy bag after his session. His last fight here in Cebu was on November 27, 2010, a majority decision win against Arnel Tinampay.

Also spotted at the RWS Gym was former WBO superflyweight champion Marvin Sonsona, who had a light sparring session with Jayson Redondo. Sonsona, who trains at the Omega gym when he is here in Cebu, was looking for more sparring partners.

Sonsona will face Carlos Fulgencio of the Dominican Republic at the Hoops Dome this Saturday March 17.
