ROBBERY TEXAS STYLE: TAVORIS CLOUD SNATCHES SPLIT DECISION WIN OVER GABRIEL CAMPILLO By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Sun, 19 Feb 2012 There was a huge robbery at American Bank Center in Corpus Christi, Texas tonight. All the guilty parties were present at the scene but no one was arrested and no one is going to jail. But those that allowed it to happen now all have eggs in their faces. Gabriel Campillo (21-3-1, 8KO) of Madrid, Spain came to town hoping to get a great big Texas reception and respect. But he got nothing but heart ache and misery. The boxing judges in this State robbed him. And, they robbed him clean. While it is true that Campillo started on the wrong note against Tavoris Cloud (23-0- 0,9KO) he did recover enough over the course of the 12 round fight to win more rounds than Cloud. Cloud knocked down Campillo twice in round 1. But that is the most he did during the night. In fact he faded so badly beginning at round 2 allowing Campillo to catch up and then passed him after 5 rounds. Campillo also cut Cloud?s left eyelid in round 3 making it difficult for the champion to see clearly enough to avoid the combinations that Campillo threw almost at will. Campillo seems to have solved the power of Cloud at round 2 and he danced around him and oftentimes throwing power combinations that visibly affected the champion. In round 10 the referee stopped the fight and asked the doctor to check the cut on Cloud but the doctor waved the fight on. In the end, Cloud was given the gift win by the judges. Judge Joel Elizondo scored it 114-112 for Cloud. Judge Danny Nelson gave it to Campillo, 115-111. Judge David Robertson was however probably watching another fight as he gave it on a wide score to Cloud, 116-110. Thus Cloud retained his IBF Light Heavyweight title via split decision. Needless to say, the crowd disagreed with the judges and booed the results incessantly. In the main event, Paul Williams (41-2-0,27K0)) beat Nobihiro Ishida (24-7-2,9K0) via a unanimous decision with the judges all in agreement, 120-108.
