GABEJAN-SINGWANGCHA TKOs BANGOYAN, GRABS PBF LIGHTWEIGHT BELT

PhilBoxing.com

Former GAB Philippine Featherweight Champion Edgar Gabejan-Singwangcha scored a tenth round technical knockout victory against former WBC International Superbantamweight champion Balweg Bangoyan to win the PBF Lightweight Belt in Mandaluyong City last night. Bangoyan was the heavy favorite while Gabejan was the clear underdog.

Bangoyan started fast and accurate, hitting Gabejan with strong hooks to the head. But the durable Waray warrior withstood Bangoyan?s attacks and started his own barrage of uppercuts and hooks to the head and body of Bangoyan from the fourth round and onwards. It was a toe to toe brawl round by round which made the crowd do a standing ovation at the end of each round. There were some clinching but it never took away the bloody action.

A good punch opened a cut on Bangoyan?s eyebrow in the sixth round. Gabejan continued his hot pursuit hurting Bangoyan with good straights and hooks. Gabejan was also stunned several times but he continued dictating the pace of the fight. Bangoyan was taking more punishment as the rounds progressed but he took the worst beating in the ninth where he also hit Gabejan with a good straight which stunned the warrior from the Jaro Stable. At the end of the round it was clear that Bangoyan was taking the worse punishment. He was on rubbery legs in the final seconds of the round.

Sensing danger before the start of the last and final round, Bangoyan himself told the ringside physician that he cannot take further punishment and retired from his stool thus giving Edgar Gabejan a TKO victory and awarding him the PBF Lightweight Belt. Clearly, everybody learned from the Mquinto incident and were extra cautious of the boxer?s health the whole time.

According to International Promoter and Manager Aljoe Jaro, Gabejan was asked to fight on a very short one week notice. He was only a substitute opponent and was only able to train for ten days. However Gabejan is a disciplined fighter and keeps himself in shape even without any fight offers. ?It was Edgar?s night. The kid was hardworking and was able to absorb the power of Bangoyan. He might not have the best record but Edgar is one hell of a warrior. It?s a big victory for him and he deserves it. I have another national champion. I can sense that I will have more champions in my stable this year. 2012 is a great year for my stable and I can sense it?, Jaro told philboxing. He was of course referring to the upcoming world title fight of Sonny Boy Jaro against WBC Champ Pongsaklek Wonjongkam of Thailand and Denver Cuello?s near world title crack.

In the undercard matches, Ricky ?Tyson? Sabia and JB Singwangcha scored a technical draw after Sabia suffered a broken nose caused by an accidental head butt in the fourth round.

Rene Bestudio of the Tiger City Stable scored a unanimous decision victory over JR Mendoza. Roa Singwangcha of the Naris Singwangcha Stable won via unanimous decision over Jaypee Otilla of Bebot Elorde Boxing Stable.

Tough chinned Jimmy Aducal of Tiger City Stable knocked out Jayson Beruela in the third round. Angelito Mirin won by luck as Marco Niones failed to continue due to severe leg cramps. Niones was leading on the score cards but the cramps gave the TKO win to Mirin. Jesame de la Zerna of the Tiger City Stable dominated Rolando Niones en route to a unimous decision victory.

Warren Manbuanag won via fourth round KO against Jerron Talaman. Michael Dasmari?as of the Peewee Vasquez Stable won by unanimous decision against Jimmy Viceda of Mandaluyong. Ian Ligutan of the Jaro Boxing Stable outboxed Jumel Mungcal of the Del Rosario Stable of Laguna. Gilbert Dioreco outpointed Nelson Zabala. In the curtain raiser, Aldren Jener won via unanimous decision against Eljohn Evangelista.

The exciting event was organized by Atty. Voltaire San Pedro with the support of Mayor Benhur Abalos and was presented by AKTV. It was a jam-packed Mandaluyong Gymnasium and the fight cards were indeed worth seeing. In the crowd were actors Leandro Mu?oz and Dennis Trillo. Also spotted was sexy actress and FHM cover girl Iwa Moto. Also in attendance were promoters Aljoe Jaro, Jay San Pedro, Atty. Voltaire San Pedro,Noel Deyto and OPBF Champion Rolly Lunas-Matsushita.
