SUICO SET TO DEPART FOR VEGAS JULY 6
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 26 Jun 2006
World-ranked Randy Suico yesterday arrived from Japan highly confident that when he challenges WBA lightweight king Juan Diaz on July 15 in Las Vegas, somebody's O will have to go.
The dynamite-fisted Suico touched down yesterday from Tokyo, where he had been training the last two weeks.
Suico was originally preparing for his July 2 fight underneath the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios duel, but was tapped as a replacement for injured Mongolian Lakva Sim as challenger to Diaz.
"Yes, this is it. There's no turning back. The world championship is a dream-come-true for me, and I will try my best to deliver," said Suico in an interview right after touching down from Tokyo.
Suico (24-2, 21 KO's) versus Diaz (29-0, 14 KO's) will serve as a chief support to the Shane Mosley-Fernando Vargas rematch to be held at the legendary MGM Grand Hotel and Casino along the Strip.
Suico's trainer, however, indicated that Diaz is going to be the toughest assignment for Suico, although he acknowledged that his ward is going into the fight in the best shape ever.
Ablaca, who credits Japanese impresario Akihiko Honda and manager Joe Koizumi for giving Suico the opportunity, also divulged that him and Suico will be flying direct to Las Vegas on July 6.
"Manager Koizumi will also be flying out of Japan straight to Vegas on that day, accompanied by his staff Oda," Ablaca pointed out.
