BAUTISTA READY TO WHIP MONTIEL!

PhilBoxing.com

Undefeated young phenom Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista plans no less than a rude welcome for Mexican Alejandro Felix Montiel when they trade leathers on July 2 in the chief support of the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar Larios rumble at the Araneta Coliseum.

This was what the dynamite-fisted Freddie Roach protege said in an interview yesterday at the world-class ALA Gym, where Bautista is based when not fighting in the US.

Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista (left) is doing the mitts with trainer Edito "Ala" Villamor at yesterday's practice session at the ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu City.

"I'm going to punish him for not allowing me to take my much-deserved rest following my US bout," Bautista said in an interview yesterday during a lull in training, where he has been ripping away at punchmitts put his way by Filipino trainer Edito Villamor.

Right after coming home from his bout with Roberto Bonilla, Bautista was forced to report to the ALA gym immediately, and saw his parents and siblings only for a very few days before heading back to Cebu for his call time.

Feeling a little under the weather yesterday but nonetheless over himself for that sensational win last May 20 against Roberto Bonilla, Bautista looked in tremendous shape as he prepares for the worst beating that awaits Montiel in Manila.

"I'm leaving for Manila on June 27 (Tuesday) together with Sir Ala (manager Tony Aldeguer), my trainer, and Sir Sam," revealed Bautista, who did not spar yesterday owing to a slight fever.

However, when informed that his American trainer Freddie Roach was already in the country since yesterday morning, Bautista's eyes lit up not unlike a child inside a candy store, and there was palpable excitement on his part as he banged away on the mitts.

"I already miss Coach Freddie. I want him to know that I'm doing fine and training well here at the ALA Gym, and eager to join him again in Manila. Hope he had a nice trip," said the teen-aged boxing sensation.

The Bautista-Montiel bout is one of only three that will be included in the international telecast on July 2 that will be beamed in the United States on pay-per-view via ABS-CBN's distributors. Also included is the Gerry Penalosa-Thomas Rojas showdown. Both fights precede the much-awaited Pacquiao-Larios encounter.
