THE SON SHINES: ALA passes managerial hat to son Michael By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 01 Jun 2006 Cebu's premier boxing patron, the well-loved Antonio L. Aldeguer, has virtually passed on the managerial chores of his boxers to his youthful son Michael, as the ALA boys are now slowly gaining foothold in the international boxing scene. In a well-organized press conference Wednesday night, Aldeguer formally announced to members of the media that henceforth, his son Michael, only in his early 30's, will now take over the managerial reins of his famous boxers, although he refused to say that he would be slowing down in his daily activity at the gym. The older Aldeguer apparently will continue to take part in the technical aspect of improving the boxers' skill levels, and retains his position as the final decision-maker in their careers, although Michael will now serve as the 'registered manager' of the fighters and will work closely with trusted chief lieutenant Sammy 'Don King' Gello-ani. Aldeguer stated that in the United States, most of the events require a registered manager to accompany the boxers, thus his son will now be representing him. Some of the more notable boxers in ALA's stable include the undefeated Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista, OPBF superfly champ Z 'The Dream' Gorres, the undefeated AJ Banal, WBO Asia-Pacific champ Czar Amonsot, plus an army of top prospects, which include newly-crowned PABA welter boss Dondon Sultan, Rey Caitom, and Robert Allanic. The highly-educated Michael Aldeguer, a constant fixture at boxing events together with his lovely wife Christine, who is a former Miss Cebu Tourism beauty titlist, is also tasked to represent his father in their dealings with the Golden Boy Promotions of Oscar De la Hoya in the United States. The older Aldeguer is known as a hands-on manager to his boxers, personally attending to their daily training except on occasions when he is out of the country.
