Pacquiao-Marquez III Undercards
By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Sat, 12 Nov 2011
LAS VEGAS, Nevada ? Two up and coming Filipino fighters are set to appear in the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez world welterweight championship fight at the MGM Grand Arena here.
Fernando Lumacad, a third generation fighter being a scion of a boxing family that started with former Orient-Pacific Boxing Federation champion Speed Cabanela, tries to barge back into international recognition when he faces Joseph Rios of San Antonio, Texas in an-eight round super-flyweight class.
Welterweight Dennis Laurente, likewise, will seek his place in world ranking when he battles Ayi Bruce of Albany, New York, also in an eight-round collision.
Both Lumacad and Laurente should be installed favorites over their respective opponents on the strength of their experienced and track records. The 25-year-old Lumacad owns a 24-3-3 win-loss-draw card with 12 KOs as against the 10-5-2 4 KOs of Rios, who is older by four years. Laurente will rely on his 37-3-4 1 (9KOs) to prevail over Bruce, who has (13-4 (6KOs).
Also in the supporting events in the Pacquiao-Marquez 12-round scuffle is the World Boxing Organization championship encounter between Tim Bradley and Joel Casamayor. A pair of 10-rounders round out televised portion of the card with Juan Carlos Burgos taking on Luis Cruz for the WBC Silver and WBO junior lightweight tussle. This will be followed to be followed by the Juan Carlos Burgos and Luis Cruz setto for the IBF Latino junior welterweight confrontation.
A four-rounder pitting super-lighweights Jose Garcia against Jose Benavidez and a six rounder featuring Sammy Santana and Jose Benavidez Jr. open the curtains of the 70-round card .
