PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ WEIGH-IN HAS FIESTA ATMOSPHERE By Rod Mijares PhilBoxing.com Sat, 12 Nov 2011 Jalen was in the house. University of Michigan alumnus and former NBA star, Jalen Rose, graced the weigh-in as host of this much anticipated event prior to the actual fight. It is here that fans of both sides are trying to outdo each other who would have the greatest decibel that would shook the foundation of the MGM Grand Arena in a closer, visible, friendly and fun-filled environment. The Mexicans or the Filipinos. They both came in groups. chant in groups and completely prepared with banners and flags that donned their countries. Parents attended with their son or daughter and happily posed for pictures behind their country's banner or flag which the media took advantage of. The media was attracted to that side who created the most noise. It's just everywhere. On their right, on their left and just behind them. Cameras in tow, they followed the noise as if it's like music so soothing and mellowed. If the noise died down for a moment, the host Jalen Rose and the legendary announcer Michael Buffer were there to animate the crowd to get ready to rumble. Absent on the stage are other boxing champions and Hollywood celebrities as there are none on it to steal the limelight. Although, some were with the fans or just below the stage. As the stage belongs to Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez, two of the greatest and respected boxers that grace and entertain our present world. They were the main protagonists and they were the reason fans were out here. Juan Manuel Marquez came in at 142 pounds and Manny Pacquio who climbed the stage amidst the sound of Pilipino song came in at 143 pounds. They faced each other, stood besides each other and posed for pictures. There was no verbal accusations hurled as expected of any Pacquiao fight. The only thing thrown were give a-ways of shirts, hats or maybe Pacquiao's old shoes by his handlers Buboy Fernandez and conditioning coach, Alex Ariza. Pacquiao took out a new pair of white athletic shoes from a plastic bag and replaced his old ones. "The scream of the fans," Pacquiao answered when asked what he likes best in the weigh-in and the crowd screamed on top of their voices. "I will do my best and impress the boxing fans," he added. "I will rest and prepare for tomorrow." "Win every round," Marquez answered when asked what he will do to "actually" win the 3rd fight of his trilogy with Pacquiao avoiding the magic word.
