OVERLOOKED ORTIZ CERTAINLY CAPABLE OF PULLING AN UPSET

PhilBoxing.com

Victor ?Vicious? Ortiz, the WBC Welterweight World Champion walked into my office late Tuesday morning looking every bit of a very confident fighter.

During the short conversation we had as I completed the work he came for, Ortiz stated:- ?I intend to keep my crown and Floyd is not going to take it away. I worked very hard to be a champion and the last thing I would like to happen is to lose what I earned because of the hard work I put over the years.?

Ortiz is in top spirits. I never seen him so self-assured in the many occasions he has been to my office. Not even before his fight with Andre Berto.

Ortiz already appears to be in very good shape weeks removed from his title defense against the cocky Mayweather on September 17th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena at Las Vegas. He looks so superbly conditioned. Even at this stage of his training he seems to be ready if the fight happens tomorrow.

?My weight is well managed and I eat what I like to,? he said.

The well covered ?back problem? he reportedly suffered a few days ago that made him missed a day of training is not evident at all even when I lowered the back rest of my dental chair to position him properly.

Mayweather?s focus on many other things, his issues with Pacquiao included, may back fire on September 17th.

Mayweather is not fighting a bloated Juan Manuel Marquez or even a slowed down and aging Shane Mosley. He is up against a young gladiator on the rise who sees the undefeated fighter in Mayweather as an impediment to his further rise up the ladder of the 140-147 pounders.

In addition, no matter how good is Floyd the many months he had been away from the ring and his lifestyle will eventually catch up with him. If he does not take Ortiz more seriously than he is doing now and put the right amount of work to assure a win, he may be in for a rude awakening.

Ortiz is a lefty. History indicates that Floyd had problems with lefties in the past like Judah and Corley On top of that Ortiz can hit and hit hard, if I may say. Andre Berto knows that and Floyd will soon find out too.

Ortiz had shown that he can move far better than in his early days. His defense may need more attention given the fact that Mayweather is a good counter-puncher, but I am sure he is working the kinks out of that. If he takes the fight early to Mayweather and lands one or two of his haymakers, Mayweather will fall.

Without a doubt, that would be the upset of the century.

Too far fetch for an upset? I could not care less what the odds say this early but let me caution everyone not to bet the house on it. We have enough people at the Skid Row in LA.
