GORRES, CHUWATA PRESSCON UPDATES! By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Thu, 16 Mar 2006 Just moments ago, a press conference sponsored by Penrex was rolled out for Z "The Dream" Gorres and Thailand's Waenpetch Chuwatana at the Baseline Restaurant in Cebu City. The duo dukes it out for the vacant Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) superfly title this Saturday in Mandaue City in a card aptly dubbed "A Dream Come True," which will be aired on Sunday starting 1PM at the top-rating Main Event on RPN-9. Gorres (22-1, with 1 draw and 12 KOs) was accompanied to the presser by manager Antonio L. Aldeguer and trainer Edito Villamor, while Chuwatana came with manager Choojaroen Ravee Aramwong and trainer Den Chuwatana. The fighters pose with promoter Sammy Gello-ani. Also present were promoter Sammy "Don King" Gello-ani and Thai judge Pinit Prayadsab. Promoter Gello-ani stressed that they are pulling no stops in their preparation for their first-ever OPBF promotion in Cebu. Both Gorres and Chuwatana looked superbly in shape, and each announced his readiness to tangle with the other and come out victorious. "I want to thank the organizers for the very warm welcome. This will be a good fight. Hope the judges will be fair," said Chuwatana through Pinit Prayadsab, who acted as translator for the non-English speaking visitors. The southpaw Gorres, who said he had already watched a tape of his foe's past fights, emphasized that Chuwatana's style is tailor-made for him, and that the Thai doesn't give him the creeps. "He's going to have a hard time when I start giving him side-to-side movements," said the young top-ranked fighter, who will miss the services of his American trainer Freddie Roach this Saturday. Former OPBF champ Chuwatana (23-7-2, 14 KO's, who trains at a Bangkok Gym named after him, said his main target will be Gorres' abdomen, and he will try to chop down the tree to earn a convincing win. Also present at today's press conference were Thai boxers Decho Bankluaygym and twin brother Dechapol, who will go up against Czar Amonsot and AJ Banal, respectively. They were accompanied by Thai matchmaker Bancha Kokietgym. Two more ALA Boys--Rocky Fuentes and Robert Allanic-- were present at today's media conference. Tomorrow's weigh-in will be held early at 10AM inside the famed ALA Gym, to give way to a big press conference being prepared for a major US boxing outfit. Antonio L. Aldeguer, Gorres' manager, revealed that executives of Oscar De la Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions will face the local media tomorrow to announce their plans for the ALA Boys. Tomorrow's press conference takes place starting 12 noon at the upscale Cebu City Sports Club. Click here for more photos of the presscon.
