RESULTS FROM CHUMASH CASINO: KAYODE DOMINATES GODFREY

PhilBoxing.com

Lateef Kayode (L) puts the pressure on Matt Godfrey.

Four Wildcard Gym fighters fought last night on Gary? Shaw?s ShoBox The Next Generation which was featured on Showtime from Chumash Casino Resort at Sta. Ynes, California. Three did well but one did not.

Lateef Kayode ( 17-0-0, 14 KO) of Hollywood, CA via Nigeria proved too much for Matt Godfrey (20-3-0, 14KO) knocking down the Rhode Island fighter three times leading towards a UD victory. Scores were 98-90, 97-90 and 98-89.

Kayode can now look forward into bigger fights in the cruiserweight division but he needs a whole lot more work to join the elite like Germany?s Marco Huck, Poland?s Krysztof Wlodarczyk or even Panama?s Guillermo Jones. But with Freddie Roach nurturing Kayode?s career, he may make it to the top sooner than later.

Avalos (L) and Suleymanov.

Another Wildcard gym rat who fought last Saturday but ended up on the short end of the stick was Russia?s Khabir Suleymanov.(11-1-0,5KO). He was knocked down in round one by Lancaster, California?s Chris Avalos (19-1-0, 15KO). Avalos lost a point when he was penalized by the referee for hitting Suleymanov who was down on his knees. Suleymanov, just like any typical pug refused to admit after the fight that he was hurt by Avalos despite a free flowing bloody nose claiming that ?he felt fine?.

Art Hovhannesyan (L) downs Ray Marquez.

Glendale, California?s (via Armenia) Art Hovhannesyan (14-0-0, 8KO) extended his clean record via a devastating win over previously unbeaten Albuquerque, New Mexico?s Archie Ray Marquez. (11-1-0,7KO) . Marquez was down in rounds 1, 3 and five. The Armenian finally finished him off in the six with a huge left hook.

Rashad Holloway (R) scores on Jhon Berrio.

In the curtain raiser, Manny Pacquiao spar mate, Rashad Holloway (12-2-2,5KO) of Raleigh, North Carolina had to suck it up and give it his all to defeat a charging Jhon Berrio (15-10-0,11KO) by a unanimous decision.

Other results:

Marcos Robinson (3-0-0) of Santa Maria, CA beat Raul Rodriguez (2-5-1) of Bakersfield via a UD. Scores were all 39-37.

Roman Morales ( 4-0-0, 3KO) of San Ardo, California beat Jaime Villa of Midland, Texas via a 4th round knock-out. The end came at 2:42 of the round.
