CHAVEZ JR. USES HIS HEAD TO WIN AGAINST SEBASTIAN ZBIK

PhilBoxing.com

Los Angeles, CA: His father, the famed Cesar Chavez Sr told his son to use his head, listen to his trainers and work hard so as to win titles.

That was exactly what Julio Cesar Chavez Jr did and he won a title!

He listened to his coaches, trainer Freddie Roach and conditioning expert, Alex Ariza. He worked hard on and off the ring.

He woke up early to run and work out with Ariza who put Chavez Jr through the now famous ?Pacquiao Routine?. And, I would not be surprised if, he took the same nutrition Ariza fed Pacquiao to keep him in shape for long and hard grinds on the ring.

At the gym he did exactly what Roach told him to do. Oh, the work outs were not easy. But, he followed and he listened and he learned.

Even tonight, Chavez Jr used his head - literally that is.

Chavez Jr keep his head down, leading with it as he threw the many body punches he did to slow down the quicker German. Chavez Jr threw so many body punches that occasionally some went south of the border. In fact, he was told by the referee to punch a little higher.

And, when he didn?t lead with his head down he threw the combinations that eventually contributed in slowing down Zbik.

But Zbik was on top condition too. Any other fighter who is on the receiving end of the many body punches Chavez Jr landed would have crumpled to the canvas. Not Zbik. He just kept on coming and gave it all .

It took Chavez Jr. a hard win of round 12 to seal the victory. Even at that the win was just barely slanted to his favor.. The scores of 115-113, 116-112 did it for him. It could have been even a draw had he not sealed round 12.

Chavez is now the WBC Middleweight Title holder with a belt a whole lot more meaningful than that ?Silver Belt? he previously won.

But he has a whole lot of work ahead to really be a dominant fighter in his division. It would not be easy with guys like Sergio Martinez and even Paul Williams lurking around.

But if he keeps on using his head just like his Dad told him to, he will be a major player in his division. He is only 25 now so if his new title does spoil him , he may have a long reign as a champion.

All he needs is to continue using his head every which way he can.
