ROACH ON CHAVEZ, JR, MARQUEZ, MAYWEATHER, MARTINEZ, HOPKINS, ATLAS AND MORE

PhilBoxing.com

SOUTH CAROLINA, USA ? Lots of people judged Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to be the most pampered boxer in this generation. After over 30 fights he was still fighting bums, trisikad drivers, fighters with double digits in losing column. To make this story short, this Saturday, June 4, 2011, the Junior will fight for a legitimate World Crown. No less than the most prestigious championship belt of all the boxing bodies, the WBC. Chavez Jr. will challenge Sebastian Zbik who is undefeated with 30-0-0 of Schwerin Germany.

I left Roach a message, I asked him if the Junior is already ripe? I called back and Roach told me that his beloved pupil of Mexico is 100% ripe.

I see Zbik as the better boxer, the slicker of the two. So, what is the Junior?s advantages Freddie? ?His body punching, he did all what I wanted him to do in training,? Roach said. ?His dedication and training hard will win him the championships, those are things that I like the most of Junior. Plus his Dad?s support and his family behind him.?

If you ask me, anything Roach touches they turn out to be a good puncher/boxer, I expect Junior to have a better head movement and throw those killer body shots more effectively. I guess with crowd in Staples Center all behind for their National Hero?s Son, Chavez Junior will be the new WBC Middleweight Champion of the World with Freddie the X-factor of this fight. With Chavez Jr lurking around, boxing will be merrier, more exciting and lots of drama going on, think about Saul Alvarez vs Julio Cezar Chavez Jr? VIVA MEXICO!

CATCHWEIGHT ISSUE:

We?ll make Manny Pacquiao vs. Juan Manuel Marquez the second topic.

My angle is: Is it advantageous for Manny at 144 lbs catchweight coming Novemeber 11?

Freddie Roach: ?The 144 lbs catchweight is not an issue, the fact that Manny is a different fighter right now than before the weight issue is not an issue at all.?

Roach agreed with me that of all the fighters Manny fought the past 16 fights, only Marquez gave Manny a better run for his money.

?When Manny fought Marquez before, he only got one hand with him the left straight, and he only knew one direction, which is to go forward. Now Manny got two devastating hands, and he just don?t go forward for a kill, he can kill you with his side to side and lateral moves,? said Roach.

What can you say when Marquez fought Mayweather Jr?

Roach: ?Mayweather came in the fight OVERWEIGHT, which is a shame, how can you sign a contract and not honor it? Maybe that?s what the world we live right now Anthony. That was a very big advantage for Mayweather because it means he was fully hydrated the day before the fight and he was very well rested. Nevertheless, I don?t think that the weight issue is the reason why Marquez lost that fight. Mayweather is just too quick and too good for Marquez. In other words, it is not necessary for Mayweather to show up overweight when he fought Marquez.?

GOLDEN BOYS:

My angle: People laughed when we threw Manny?s name against Barcelona Olympics gold medalist Oscar Dela Hoya, who quit at his stool against Manny, we all know that. All of a sudden the other partner of Golden Boy Promotions Sugar Shane Mosley begged his trainer to stop the fight so that he can enjoy his $5M purse, didn?t win any round against Manny. So here is the equilateral angle: HOW ABOUT HOPKINS, FREDDIE? Should I laugh throwing Manny?s name against the legendary Hopkins?... ?WE WILL KNOCK HOPKINS OUT! Only if he go down 147 lbs,? Roach jokingly replied.

ON TEDDY ATLAS:

Teddy Atlas discredits Manny on ESPN Friday Night Fight (first Friday after Manny won against shame Mosley). Teddy said that he?s not impressed with Manny at all, fought the dehydrated Oscar, the exposed Cotto, the Beerman Hatton, etc? if Manny is really great, why not fight Sergio Martinez? Let him climb weight class like Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, like Thomas Hearns did, like all great fighters did, said Teddy on live TV. I asked to myself, is Teddy only watching boxing every Friday (maybe he doesn?t have HBO or Showtime), does he know what happened outside Friday Night fights?... Roach answered, ?Tell Teddy and let Teddy tell Sergio Martinez to fight Manny at 147 lbs and we?ll knock him out like Margarito did to him, and that is not a joke!?

Oh!Beertime!!!

Cavs/Mavs vs Heat, if Heat win the series, they will be 10X more cocky and confident next season, if there is one 2011-2012 season (with the on going bargaining agreement between the NBA and the players union)? on the other hand if Mavs win the Cavs will be happy and its about time to crown a seven footer (who can shoot from half court, who can dribble the ball like a 2 guard, who can shoot free throw with one eye) the highest honor a basketball player covet, the Larry O?Brien trophy? with the series 1-1, Mavs have the home court advantage on a best of 5 series? after watching both games, the Mavs is like 70% of a team compared to the team that swept the Lakers and beat the future Champs OKC? the question why 70%? Because the athletic defensive minded Heat, block all the passing lanes, play help defense very well and capitalize the TOs into easy fastbreak points? if Mavs can?t adjust the barter faced defense of the Heat, then I expect the Heat to win 2 games at Mavs homecourt, but as a consolation, Dirk will keep his face, Haslem and Joel Anthony will wear theirs also? Froch vs Johnson, I always love Johnson, a former roadside construction worker, a part time boxer who became a world champion? Johnson is a fighting machine, never changed strategy, once he move forward, no more reverse gear on that one, Froch a good jabber but easy to hit because ho don?t have an exellent body/head movement? once Johnson get closer a lil bit and ratatat the ribs, the construction worker will have a chance to go showdown with American Andre Ward? how?s PBA today? my cousin Arlene Nazis West greeted his friend Don2x Hontiveros a happy 34th birthday in Facebook, and Don2x is one of the elders right now in PBA, wow! Didn?t we just enjoyed Cebu Gems few days ago? The Davao Eagles? The mighty Manila metrostars, Ilo2x Volts, Negros Slashers?... So I watched Manny Vs. Mosley at Buffalo Wild Wings coz I was working that weekend, fyi Buffalo wild wings only shows UFC fights, but the Manager told me that the Pacquiao fight was the record breaking sales and attendance thus far, more Manny Pacquiao fight! Sad to say only twice every year?Rest in Peace Fructoso Paez my sister in law?s Papa and Arturo Sayson, Homer Sayson?s dad.

KUMBATEA!
