ROACH DENIES NEW PACQUIAO STEROID RUMORS
By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Mon, 16 May 2011

LOS ANGELES ? ?Manny Pacquiao hasn?t had any Filipino sparring partner since he fought Oscar De La Hoya three years ago.? This was how Pacquiao?s chief trainer Freddie Roach emphatically denied the report attributed to his ward?s supposedly former Filipino sparring that he had been injecting the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion steroids and human growth hormone since 2008.
?I cannot remember the last time Manny had a Filipino sparring partner," Roach told Malaya Business Insight in an interview at his Wild Card Gym Thursday afternoon. ?But, definitely I know that Manny didn't have a Filipino sparring partner at the time before he fought Oscar when the supposed ?injector? was working as Manny?s sparring partner. up to the time he faced (Sugar Shane) Mosley last Saturday,? the five-time ?trainer of the year? honoree assured.
Pacquiao himself vehemently denied the accusation as false and another attempt to smear his reputation. ?I did not even have a Filipino sparring partner during my training for the fight against De La Hoya or for any fight since then? the Congressman from Sarangani province said. ?I have never taken steroids, HGH, or any banned performance-enhancing drug. Period.?
?My success in the ring is due to hard work, belief in God, and the support of my fans. Like every boxer, I am required to take drug tests in connection with every professional fight in the United States. I have passed every one, including my fight against De la Hoya and my most recent victory against Shane Mosley? he said. ?I will fight to protect my hard-earned good name and reputation."
Bob Arum, president and CEO of Top Rank, also expressed his sent disappointment over the story. This story has also gotten the attention of Floyd Mayweather,Jr and Shane Mosley.
