LAS VEGAS READY FOR THE BIG BOXING EVENT By Rod Mijares PhilBoxing.com Tue, 03 May 2011 LAS VEGAS -- Once again, it?s VEGAS TIME where the action and the excitement fever of a mega boxing event is always on the air. The much awaited extravaganza on Siyete de Mayo is creating a fiesta atmosphere that one only felt because of that small big man in boxing whose name happens to be the ?Pac Man,? the only Manny Pacquiao and the one who hails from one of the boxing granaries of the world, the Philippines. The Philippines ?Pambansang Kamao? (National Fist), the singing ?Politico? and congressional representative of his Sarangani province and boxing?s pound for pound king, 8-division world champion and Fighter of the Decade Manny ?Pac Man/The Greatest? Pacquaio is headlining this week-end mega event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday, May 7, 2011. He will defend his World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title against 3-division world champion and future Hall of Famer Mosley (46-6-1, 39 KOs), of Pomona, California. The WBO welterweight championship fight between Pacquiao and Mosley will be supervised by Filipino-American Hawaiian-based WBO Asia-Pacific chairman,?Leon Panoncillo; will be officiated by Kenny Bayless and the judges will be Duane Ford, Dave Moretti and Glenn Trowbridge but still subject to change and approval by the commission. Undefeated WBO Jr. Featherweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez (20-0-1, 17 KOs) of Puerto Rico and five-time world champion Jorce Arce (56-6-2, 43 KOs) of Mexico will clash for the World Junior Featherweight Championship title in one of the undercards. Former world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) of Ohio and WBC Continental Americas Champion Alfonso Lopez (21,0, 16KOs) will duke it out in a 10-round super middleweights fight. Also, undefeated Mike Alvarado (29-0, 21KOs) of Denver, Colorado will fight Ray Narh (25-1, 21 KOs) of Accra Ghana for the WBC Continental Americas Super Lightweight Championship. One other prominent Filipino boxer will also be fighting in this mega boxing event. Former WBC light flyweight champion Rodel Mayol (27-5-2, 21 KOs) from Mandaue, Cebu City, Philippines will fight Javier Gallo (17-3-1, 9 KOs) from Tijuana, Mexico in an 8-round super flyweight non-title bout. Charice, the international singer sensation from the Philippines, and a two-time guest star of the US show ?Glee? was chosen by Manny Pacquiao to sing the Philippine national anthem. In the same note, Manny Pacquiao & Dan Hill CD Single/DVD Duet of ?Sometimes When We Touch? made its public debut on Thursday, April 28, 2011 and is now available at iTunes and Amazon.com. On Tuesday, May 3 at noon, Shane Mosley will arrive at the MGM Grand followed by Manny Pacquiao at 12:30 p.m. and the public has the chance to see them in person. Official weigh-in is on Friday, May 6 at 3:00 p.m. at the MGM Grand and the doors are open to the public at 1:00 p.m. Aside from the mega fight on Saturday, there will be an ESPN Friday Night Fights at the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas starting at 5:00 p.m. This is also promoted by Top Rank where three Filipinos will see action. Bernabe Concepcion (28-4-1, 15 KOs) of Binangonan, Rizal who failed twice to wrest the WBO featherweight championship belts will again see action against Juan Carlos Martinez (18-12-1, 7 KOs) of Mexico for an 8-round featherweight non-title bout. Marlon Tapales (16-1, 5 KOs) of Lala, Lanao Del Norte, will go up against Aystreberto Juarez (10-0, 2 KOs) of Ventura, California, USA in a 6-round super flyweight bout. Allan Tanada (10-1-2, 5 KOs) of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay will fight against Gil Garcia (4-1) of Houston, Texas in a 6-round featherweight fight. The main event will feature the undefeated Las Vegas favorite Diego Magdaleno (18-0-0, 6 KOs) who will duke it out against Gilberto Sanchez Leon (31-8-2, 11 KOs) for the NABF super featherweight title. On Saturday, May 7, doors are open at 3:00 p.m. and the first bout of the Pacquiao-Mosley boxing extravaganza will start at 3:10 p.m. This fight is promoted by Top Rank Promotions; in association with MP Promotions, Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions, Tecate and MGM Grand. The four-fight Pacquiao-Mosley pay-per-view extravaganza will be produced and distributed live on SHOWTIME Pay-Per-View beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT and has a suggested retail price of $54.95. Remaining closed circuit tickets, priced at $50, are on sale and available at all Las Vegas MGM Resorts properties. The telecast will be available in HD-TV for those viewers who can receive HD.
