All the playing venues have been 90 percent completed and all regional eliminations have been done with paving the way for what is designed to be the biggest Palarong Pambansa the City of Dapitan is hosting this May 8-14.

Rose Domingo, head of the Task Force on Schools Sports of the Department of Education, and Len Toledo, consultant of the Dapitan Palaro Organizing Committee jointly announced this during Friday?s SCOOP Sa Kamayan weekly session at the Kamayan Restaurant-Padre Faura.

Toledo, who for many years had been the man behind the TFSS until he retired last year, said that except for the finishing touches still being done, the Jose Rizal State University main stadium is ready as the hub of the annual sporting conclave among the country?s student athletes in the elementary and secondary levels.
?The newly-renovated swimming pool is already being water-treated while the main gym flooring is being polished so that kung matatapos ngayon, puede nang idaos ang Palaro bukas na bukas din,? Toledo told his audience in the forum, sponsored by Coca Cola Bottling Philippines, TV-5 and FILA.

Domingo, for her part, said that members of the screening team have been deployed at the main venue and the group has, in fact, already conducting the strict implementation of the eligibility rules on the age qualification of the participating athletes.

?We are expecting from 6,000 to 10,000 participants representing the country?s 17 regions, including athletes, coaches, delegation officials, parents, chaperones and other guests to fly to the host city where our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, was exiled by the Spanish colonizers sin the early 1890s,? Domingo said.
The two also announced that Vice President Jejomar Binay will be the guest of honor and speaker during the opening ceremony on May 8. President Noynoy Aquino will do the honours during the closing rites on May 14.
To act as masters of ceremonies in the inaugural rites are actor-turned athlete Richard Gomez and Sen. Pia Cayetano.
This year?s Palaro is dedicated to the celebration of Dr. Rizal?s 150th birthday and the 100th Year Anniversary of Philippine sports, as announced by Organizing Committee, chair, former Congressman Romy Jalosjos who had earlier appeared as SCOOP guest several sessions ago.

Eighteen sports in the high school division and 17 in the elementary category will be contested in the seven-day competitions where many of the country?s sports heroes and heroines came from like former Asian Games discuss throw queen Josephine dela Vina, the region?s fastest women Inocencia Solis, Mona Sulaiman, Amelita Alanes and Lysia de Vega, to mention a few.

Girls basketball and arnis in the elementary level will be contested for the first time in the annual affair that started as the bureau of Public Schools Interscholatics in 1947.
The theme of this year?s conclave is ?Enshrining Schools Sports ?? which according to Toledo DepEd has adopted to give significance to the development of student athletes in the building of a healthy and strong Filipino citizenry both physically and mentally.

Added features will be the competitions among the differently disabled athletes whop will strut their wares in athletics, swimming, boccia and goal ball.
