ALLANIC, BONTILAO DRUB FOES IN BOHOL By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Tue, 21 Feb 2006 LOON, BOHOL--ALA Boy Robert "Cliff Smart" Allanic run into a tough-as-nails Jerry Manganip, but proved too much for the game journeyman to score a lop-sided unanimous decision in the mainer of Sunday night's "Battle in Loon" at this town's cultural center. Allanic scored knockdowns in the first and eighth rounds, but the gutsy Manganip refused to call it quits despite the scary body onslaught dished out by the Malabuyoc-born Allanic. Manganip had his occasional moments, but Allanic dominated all throughout en route to a 100-89, 98-90, 99-89 victory to improve his pro record to 10 wins, 1 loss with 4 knockout wins. Up next for the talented Allanic is a March 18 bout underneath the Z Gorres-Waenpetch Chuwatana rumble for the OPBF superfly title. The night's best fight, however, came through when Triple X's Danny Boy Bontilao crossed paths with Jagna warrior Melvin Ayudtud in an explosive face-off that saw Bontilao fashion out a hard-earned, close unanimous decision. Bontilao, who will vie for the WBO Asia Pacific featherweight crown next in Thailand, prevailed via scores of 96-95 (twice) and 96-94. The night's most impressive fighter, meanwhile, was ALA Boy AJ Banal, who turned a potentially competitive fight into target-practice when he annihilated former amateur standout John Clifford Ranan at the 2:49 mark of the third round for a fine TKO win. However, the night's most applauded boxer was Edmund "El Martillo" Velayo who captivated the crowd with his unorthodox style before stopping Jun Pader in the 43-second mark of the fourth round. By popular demand, Velayo then brought the house down with his trademark somersault to the delight of the jampacked crowd. The card also featured an entertaining two-round exhibition match between WBO Asia Pacific super-featherweight champ Czar Amonsot and Glen Masicampo. In the curtain-raiser, Rex Malibago won by TKO in the second round over Jun Celes Tadena. END Click here to view a list of other articles written by Salven L. Lagumbay. |
