ROACH WANTS SIX WEEKS TRAINING AT WILD CARD FOR MOSLEY FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

Trainer Freddie Roach is just about fed up with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao?s desire to train in the Philippines for his fights and has said he wants his prized possession to train for six full weeks at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

Roach said that Pacquiao?s training stint at the Johnny Elorde Gym in Quezon City for his last fight against Antonio Margarito was the worst and that the Baguio training camp was also a problem mainly because of the stormy weather. Roach also was unhappy over Pacquiao?s penchant to drive up and down to Manila to attend to his work in congress and to keep other commitments such as the ?Save the Pasig? 101010 run and the Armed Forces Alumni Association family sportsfest.

Rex ?Wakee? Salud also sought to enter the picture by offering his gym in Cebu for Pacquiao to train like he did for his rematch with Marco Antonio Barrera which Pacquiao won by a unanimous decision but didn?t look as impressive as in his other fights.

Roach effectively thumbed it down because of the many distractions in Cebu.

With Shane Mosley the most likely opponent for the May 7 showdown in Las Vegas, Roach believes that Pacquiao needs to stay focused and train hard because Mosley could be a threat. Roach pointed to the pay-per-view numbers when Mosley fought Mayweather and noted that Mosley ?did beat our last opponent (Antonio Margarito) also.? Roach stressed that Mosley ?is very fast and had Mayweather out for a moment and kind of let that slip out.?

Roach said ?people who say this is the easiest fight are crazy. It's definitely not the easiest fight. This guy will get into shape for Manny and try to fight the best fight he can. It's not an easy fight by any means but whoever Bob puts in front of me I?ll get Manny ready for him.?

He said a Mosley showdown would be ?a great fight and a hard fight. Manny has speed but so has Mosley. He?ll give us a little trouble because he is also experienced. He is a different type of fighter compared to Margarito. He is a much better boxer. Manny loves guys who come to him but Mosley will box him and come tyo him much more intelligently.?

The only issue holding up an announcement regarding the Mosley fight is the fact that Pacquiao apparently wants a bigger guaranteed purse than Top Rank promoter Bob Arum has offered him so far. This tactic is nothing new and eventually Arum and Pacquiao will come to terms as in the past.

Arum was scheduled to leave for Las Vegas with his wife Lovee after what he said was another enjoyable and ?fun trip? to the Philippines for Pacquiao?s lavish 32nd birthday bash in his hometown of General Santos City.

He is expected to negotiate terms with Mosley on his return to Las Vegas even as he totally ruled out a trilogy with Juan Manuel Marquez telling the Inquirer ?can you believe he was asking me more than double what he got for the (Floyd) Mayweather Jr fight. That just shows he really doesn?t want the fight.?
