JUSTIN LACEY-PIERCE OUTLASTS COURTNEY PENNINGTON IN DETROIT

PhilBoxing.com

Detroit (November 4, 2025) – Last Saturday night (November 1), undefeated Justin Lacey-Pierce (13-0, 7 KOs) pulled ahead in the later rounds to win an entertaining eight-round unanimous decision over capable veteran Courtney Pennington (17-11-3, 7 KOs) of Brooklyn in the super welterweight main event of longtime Detroit-based promoter Carlos Llinas and CLIP Boxing’s “Night of Knockouts XXXVII (37),” event at Sound Board in MotorCity Casino Hotel in Downtown Detroit.

In the second of two shows in just eight days presented by Llinas at the same venue, Lacey-Pierce and Pennington spent the opening round sizing each other up and then went to war in a solidly fought battle that featured back-and-forth action throughout. Both fighters had their moments in the fight, pushing the other back and unloading. With famed trainer Ronnie Shields urging him on from the corner, Lacey-Pierce’s superior conditioning allowed him to pull ahead in the exchanges as the fight went on.

All three judges scored it 79-73 for Lacey-Pierce in a fight that was much closer than the final scores suggest.

In supporting action, Detroit super lightweight Lance Smith (4-0, 4 KOs) kept his record perfect with a dominant fifth-round stoppage of Guadalupe Jimenez (7-18-3, 4 KOs). Smith wore down the durable Jimenez with steady pressure until the Illinois veteran elected not to come out for the penultimate round. Per Michigan Unarmed Combat Commission rules, the official result is a TKO 5 at 0:00.

Pro-debuting Detroit super middleweight James Ashley (0-1) survived two knockdowns from Benton Harbor, Michigan’s undefeated Ardarrieon Daigle-Williams (3-0, 2 KOs) in the opening round to come on strong in the final two rounds of their exciting four-round slugfest.

With the sold-out crowd on their feet throughout, the knockdowns made the difference in the end, with Daigle-Williams getting the unanimous nod by scores of 35-39, 36-38 and 36-39.

In other results, Detroit featherweight Tommy Robinson (2-0) returned from a six-year layoff to score a unanimous four-round decision over Rashad Hicks (2-5-1, 1 KO) and Grand Rapids welterweight Ulysses Campos (4-0, 4 KOs) dominated Deonta Williamson (2-5, 2 KOs) before stopping him at 2:55 of round two.
