COMPLETE RESULTS AND PHOTOS FROM THE HONDA CENTER By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Mon, 06 Dec 2010 Anaheim, CA: Top Rank last Saturday evening held a well attended fantastic fight card that was also shown live via PPV. In spite of the major changes in the main event where a fight involving Cesar Chavez Jr was cancelled due to illness, the fight card still lived up to its expectations, and more. In the first co-main event, much to the delight of the hundreds of Filipino fight fans that flocked to the Honda Center, Filipino Flash, Nonito Donaire, Jr.,( 25-1-0, 17KO) delivered a powerful message to Fernando Montiel by beating up an outclassed former WBA world champion, Vladimir Sidorenko of Ukraine CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE PHOTO GALLERY Donaire dropped Sidorenko (22-3-2,7KO) in the first round via a beautiful left-right combination and again with a big left hand on the third. In the fourth he dropped Siderenko for good with another left-right breaking his nose in the process. With the victory, Donaire won the vacant WBC Continental Americas Bantamweight title and meets Fernando Montiel for the alphabet titles on February 19, 2011 at Mandalay Bay Hotel casino Resort, Las Vegas. In the second co-main event, Humberto Soto ( 54-7-2-1,32KO) of Los Mochis, Mexico got everything he can take and gave everything he can give as he defeated a very determined challenger in Urbano Antillon (28-2-0,20KO) of Maywood, CA. The battle was a classic title fight between two gutsy and fearless Mexican warriors who do not have a word for ?reverse?. They just continually hammered each other for 12 long rounds and produced a potential ?fight of the year?. In the end, Soto won by a closed unanimous decision aided by a point deduction given by referee Rey Corona to Antillon for repeated low blows. The scores were 114-113,114-113 and 115-112. Miguel Angel Garcia, (24-0-0, 20KO) the younger brother of Donaire?s trainer, Robert Garcia, scored a 5th round TKO over a very game Canadian, Olivier Lontchi (18-2-1, 8KO) The end came at 1:30 of 5ound 5. Pawel Wolak (28-1-0,17KO) of Mt Arlington, NJ who was originally scheduled to meet Cesar Chavez Jr had a very lucky night. Had he met Chavez and performed the way he did in the early rounds against Jose Pinzon (19-2-1, 13KO), he would not have had a prayer. Pinzon of Merida, Mexico dropped Wolak in the second round but the gutsy Wolak had enough to survive the round and turned around the fight as the rounds progressed. Wolak?s relentless efforts finally paid off when the referee waved off the fight at 2:24 of round 7. Jessie Roman ( 5-0-0,3KO) kept his unbeaten record via a unanimous decision over Johnny Frazier ( 3-4-2,3KO) of Las Vegas, NV. The scores were 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37. Rodrigo Garcia (8-0-0,5KO) of Santa Ana, CA kept his record immaculate via a 3rd round KO of Rodrigo Villareal (4-5-1,2KO) of Houston, Texas. Villareal?s corner requested the referee to stop the fight when Villareal was knocked-down. Joe Hanks (14-0-0, 10 KO) KO?d Vili Bloomfield (9-6-1,4KO) of Everett, Washington in 1:43 of round 3. Hanks was beating on Bloomfield in the middle of round 3 prompting referee Jerry Cantu to step in and stop the fight. Freddie Roach? prot?g?e, Andy Ruiz ( 7-0-0,5KO) of Imperial Valley, CA scored a 2nd round K0 over Francisco Javier Diaz ( 2-5-0,2KO) of Michoacan, Mexico. Ruiz dropped Diaz with a giant left hook in round 1. Then in round 2, he dropped Diaz for good with a left hook-right straight dropping him face down on the canvas. In the curtain raiser, Gabino Saenz (2-0-1,2KO) of Indio, CA scored a 1st round KO over Jesse Adame (16-1,0KO) of San Bernardino, CA. Time: 2:45. Adame was down twice during the short fight.
