FILIPINO UNDERCARD FIGHTERS MAKE WEIGHT

ARLINGTON, TX ? The three Filipinos who will fight in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Margarito mega-event at the Cowboys Stadium Saturday night made weight easily during the official weigh-in Friday.

Dennis Laurente came in at 146.5, while his opponent Rashad Holloway was a cool 147 lbs.

Bai Elorde, who is making his US debut, was 131 ? lbs while his Houston based opponent, Angel Rodriguez, came in at 132.5.

Richi Mepranum, who was reportedly let go by the MP promotions, came in at112 ? lbs and his opponent from Perris, CA Anthony Villareal, was exactly 112 lbs.

In the main event, Manny Pacquiao hit the scales at 144.6 lbs while Antonio Margarito was 150 lbs. on the nose.

With apologies to NY Yankees baseball player Yogi Berra, am I seeing a ?de ja vu all over again??

Now let me take you back a few fights ago.

Remember when Manny fought a ?much taller and stronger guy? in Oscar de la Hoya?

People said he was too small to tackle such an obviously bigger man when he came in at 144 lbs.

We all know what happened. The Golden Boy gave up seated in his corner after round 8th.

Tomorrow night, Pacquiao is again fighting a ?much taller and a stronger? guy in Antonio Margarito. Yes, you guessed it right. Pacman is at 144 lbs again. Actually, 144.6.

Do I see Margarito falling between the 6th and 9th round just like the Golden Boy?

From what I saw at the weigh-in this afternoon, that is entirely possible.

Margarito came in at exactly 150 lbs. From our photo position, third row from the front, we had a very good close-up view of the fighters on the scale. And, judging on the physical outlook of Margarito, it looks like he was drained from his efforts to make weight.

That is a really bad sign of things to come.
