JACA FACES HERNANDEZ; 'THE BATTLE' CARD IS COMPLETE By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Fri, 20 Jan 2006 LAS VEGAS, NEVADA--Jimrex "The Executioner" Jaca, the only Filipino seeing action this Sunday, has been assigned a new foe once again in his eight-round debut fight in the United States underneath the mammoth Erik Morales-Manny Pacquiao rematch at the Thomas and Mack Center here. The 22-year-old Jaca, the Sibulan, Negros Oriental-raised protege of Rex "Wakee" Salud, will now take on Mexican lightweight Geronimo "Torito" Hernandez in the second fight of the card, which is set to unwrap starting 4PM on Saturday (Sunday, Manila time). Hernandez will replace John Nolasco for medical reasons. Nolasco had earlier been tabbed to replace Jaca's original foe Ivan Valle. Jaca arrived in Las Vegas yesterday following days of training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, just in time for tomorrow's weigh-in starting at 3:30 PM at the world-famous Wynn Hotel's Margaux Ballroom 2. "He's in tremendous shape. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he'll get a win together with Manny," said Jaca's manager Salud, in an interview at the lobby of the Wynn Hotel, where he is staying. Jaca (24-1-1, 11 KO's) will be assisted in his corner by Eric Brown, one of the trainers at Roach's Wild Card Gym, and US-based Filipino Gerry Balagbagan, a former boxer who serves as Pacquiao's running mate in training. Hernandez, a 28-fight veteran from Diaz Ordaz, Mexico, holds a record of 12-15-1, 4 KO's. Meanwhile, the complete line-up for "The Battle," which features Morales versus Pacquiao in the main event, pits: Martin Castillo versus Alexander Munoz for the WBA superflyweight title (12 rds); Jose Luis Zertuche vs Marcos Primera (10 rds); Juan Manuel Lopez vs Jose Luis Caro (6 rds); Juan Pablo Montes Deoca vs Ramon Montano; Gene Newton vs Grzegorz Proksa; Jimrex Jaca vs Geronimo Hernandez; and Sal Garcia vs Carlos Valcarcel.
