Baguio City - Former WBC light flyweight champ Rodel Mayol has been in the Philippines for a month and presently training in Baguio for his return to the ring. Mayol was at the Shape Up Gym yesterday afternoon before Manny Pacquiao started his open workout for the media. Mayol will be fighting as a flyweight.

"It is difficult to make 108 lbs. But if it is for a world title, I will try. But for now, I will fight at 112." he said.

Mayol, who hails from Mandaue City, Cebu, lost his title to Omar Nino Romero of Mexico by unanimous decision last June. He will be fighting on Nov. 5 against Thailand?s Pompetch Twins Gym. This fight will be held at the at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig which is headlined by former WBC/IBF world lt.flyweight champ Brian Viloria who will fight Thailand?s Liempetch Sor Veerapol. WBC International minimumweight titlist Denver Cuello will also see action and face another Thai, Kongkrai Kiatpracha.

Also seen at the Shape Up Gym was flyweight contender Richie "Magnum" Mepranum. He lost his bid for a WBO world crown last June by 5th round TKO against Julio Cesar Miranda of Mexico. Mepranum hails from Rep. Manny Pacquiao's district of Sarangani. He will fight in the undercard of Pacquiao vs Antonio Margarito this November 13 in Texas. Mepranum will face Anthony Villareal of the U.S. in an eight round bout.Villareal is familiar to Filipino fans having lost to Milan Melindo last January by unanimous decision in one of the best fights seen in Cebu this year. Mayol, who based in Los Angeles, had the experience of sparring with Villareal in California.

Mayol, Mepranum and Viloria are in must win situations if they want to further their boxing careers.
