VISA PROBLEMS HOUND JACA
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Sat, 07 Jan 2006
The only Filipino fighter slated to see action in the undercard of the Erik Morales-Manny Pacquiao rematch is in danger of losing his once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Philippine super-featherweight champ Jimrex "Executioner" Jaca, who is set to see action on January 21 underneath the Erik Morales-Manny Pacquiao rematch, is in danger of not making the trip as he has yet to secure his visa for his entry into the United States.
Jaca, who was at the US Embassy yesterday and Thursday, has been required by the US embassy to apply for a P-1 visa, effectively putting his upcoming fight in danger of being shelved.
"It takes around 15 days to secure a P-1 visa, so Jimrex only has a very slight chance of making the trip. I'll try to consult an immigration lawyer," informed Jaca's manager Rex "Wakee" Salud, who accompanied his ward to the embassy. Salud, however, sounded hopeless on his ward's chances of making the trip, as he blamed a close associate of Manny Pacquiao for not keeping his promise of assisting Jaca's paperworks.
P-1 visa petitions, according to a website, cannot be approved until the appropriate organizer is consulted by the USCIS.
A P-1 entertainment visa is a nonimmigrant visa which allows foreign nationals who are athletes, artists and entertainers to enter into the U.S. for a specific event, competition or performance.
Jaca (24-1-1, 11 KO's) is scheduled to face Mexican Ivan Valle (23-5-1, 19 KO's) in an 8-round tiff in "The Battle" card set o n January 21 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
