NIETES TITLE FIGHTS - THE FOURTH, JUST LIKE THE FIRST THREE, COULD ALSO BE A CHARM By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Fri, 13 Aug 2010 Guasave, Sinoloa, Mexico: Diego Morales, the brother of one of the greatest Mexican fighters, Erik Morales, in cooperation with his co-promoters Sampson Lewkowicz LLC and the ALA Promotions of Cebu held the official press con today to present the fighters for Saturday?s fight in this city headlined by WBO Minimum weight champion Donnie Nietes and his challenger and hometown boy, Mario Rodriguez. The event was held at a modest private room of a reticent restaurant, the Mariscos La Bahia a few steps from the official hotel of the promotions, the El Sembrano Hotel and Casino. Unfortunately, like some press conferences held in non-English speaking countries, the whole thing was conducted in language predominant in the country, in this case it was in Mexico thus almost all was in Spanish. No translator was provided to allow the press people who are non-Spanish speaking to grasp the whole thing but the organizers found it appropriate that way as there were only two media reps who did not speak fluent Spanish, Dong Secuya of PhilBoxing.com and the charming lady videographer from GMA network from Manila. But be that as it may, we were able to capture a few of the spoken words. One thing that stood out was the change in the way challenger Mario Rodriguez picked his words this time around. Rodriguez is no longer predicting that he will knock out Nietes. In all probability he saw that Nietes was bigger than him and that he came well prepared. Viewing the fighters at the head table and when they stood to pose for photos, we saw Rodriguez may have been right in changing his position/prediction of the fight. Nietes was simply bigger than him over-all. Given the above, it could be entirely possible that for Nietes, the fight on Saturday would turn out to be a charm. Just like the first two he previously had in this country. After the press con, the promoters served a sumptuous lunch with the main dishes being shrimps cooked in different ways.
