PACLANDER IS FINALIST IN MAJOR U.S. FILM COMPETITION; NEEDS VOTES TO WIN TOP PRIZE

PhilBoxing.com

Marc Jonathan de Jesus.

Paclander and PhilBoxing contributor Marc Jonathan de Jesus (Pacland handle: Marc D) is nearing to accomplish a rare feat if he wins the Canon and Vimeo film making contest that culminate this Saturday, July 31, EDT. Pacland is well-known for its creative members and graphic artists whose works litter the Internet boxing sites and blogs. This time however, Pacland may produce its first Fil-Am member to win a major U.S. film competition.

"I'm so excited," 33-year-old Marc Jonathan de Jesus of Fullerton, California said, "considering the legendary judges that voted for me and also the film festival and academy award implications."

De Jesus' work, 'Fool Circle', barged into the finals of the Canon camera and Vimeo video-sharing companies’ “The Story Beyond the Still” contest heralded as the "largest collaborative film effort in history". The objective of the contest is to take a still photograph provided by Canon, interpret a story about it, and make a 4 minute film about it. The competition is divided up into 7 4-minute chapters or rounds. The first chapter was done by Pulitzer Prize winner Vincent LaFloret (a judge). His 4-minute film ended with a still photo, which the next filmmaker went on to make his own 4-minute film and so on. The current entries are now for Chapter 6. Previous "Beyond The Still" winners had won Gold & Silver Lions at Cannes.

A panel of 9 judges, comprised of Hollywood legends including Rick McCallum, the Producer of the Star Wars Movies' Episodes I-III, Russell Carpenter, the Academy Award Winning Cinematographer of "Titanic" and Rodney Charters, Director of Photography on "24", voted for the five finalists.

Set up like the Americal Idol, the winner will be decided by popular votes. De Jesus' and the other four finalists' works are now on display at http://vimeo.com/groups/beyondthestill.

De Jesus, who looks up to "Pound-for-Pound King" and Fighter of the Decade" Manny Pacquiao's achievements in and out of the ring for inspiration, is asking his fellow Paclanders to help him win this one.

"I honestly channeled my inspiration and perseverance from Pacquiao's training camp workouts that I saw on HBO 24/7 and read on [Pacland] ... because I had to carry a huge load to make this film a reality, as I was director, editor, cinematographer, executive producer and co-writer... Because of the prestige of this contest and also the potential festival awards it can bring, a win would be a huge boost for not just me but also for the Filipino and Filipino American community," De Jesus said.

Here are the steps how to vote:
