PADJAI, DELGADO SHINE IN BANGKOK! By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 21 Jul 2010 Top Rated International Promotions, based in Bangkok, recently held another big event last July 16 at the Thonburi University here, which was televised all throughout Thailand over Channel 7. The event was presented in cooperation with Yongyut Promotions. Australia's Daniel Potter, who founded Top Rated Intl Promotions and its multi-million baht Top Rated gym located along Soi Chiyaphruek 3 Bangkhunnon-Talingchan Rd in Bangkok, and his partner Yongyut Lervisit, made sure it was an event to remember. Doing away from the usual outdoor location which Thai boxing is known for, this time, the event was held inside a small stadium at the Thonburi University. And for a change, the venue was air-conditioned. Aside from Potter and Yongyut, also present at the show were the wives of both promoters. Jennifer Potter, who flew in from Australia to watch the show, was visibly happy with the outcome, most especially with the antics of the highly-entertaining Filipino fighter Jonnel Alivio. Lovely in a white long-sleeved Guess polo that would put a lot of models to shame, Jennifer Potter, a fitness freak back in Australia, was seen videotaping the main event using her mobile phone. Top Rated Gym's fair-haired boy Padjai Yongyutgym did not disappoint, as he kept his unblemished record and took the PABA featherweight title with a fourth-round technical knockout win over Indonesia's Muhamad Des Afrizal, the former PABA champion. It was an impressive win for Padjai, considering that it was only his eighth pro fight, and he was facing a very tough veteran in Afrizal. "The sparring he had in the gym, and the tremendous work ethic made him win," explained Potter's man Friday Len in a post-fight interview. In the chief support, Filipino Ariel Delgado, who is also promoted by Top Rated, unleashed his wrath with a second-round knockout over Chen Manoprungroj, who absorbed a lethal left to the kisser that saw the Thai fighter on his back for several minutes. Another Filipino, Jonnel Alivio, entertained the crowd with his antics and toyed with the tough-looking Suor Carryboy before earning a unanimous decision win over six rounds. Sukkasem Kietyongyuth stopped ex-PABA champ Vicky Tahumil in two rounds, while Singapore's only professional fighter, Mohammad Nor Rizan, stopped Thailand's Chiangyin Kor Saknarintra in five rounds after a bloody give and take affair. Notes. Singaporean trainer Philip Marcelo is confident his ward Mohamad Nor Rizan will only get better especially if gets good sparring in Thailand...Thailand-based Steve Grayson, who runs the website www.kohtaothaiboxing.com, has just put up what is arguably going to be the most picturesque training site in Thailand located on a beautiful island in Koh Tao. For those interested to book a vacation-training with him, contact him at steve@kohtaothaiboxing.com and get to experience world-class training in paradise...Top Rated might hold another event sometime the last quarter of this year featuring Padjai's title defense...Also being groomed for a title fight is Ariel Delgado, possible for the Philippine championship.
