Takasi Okada the young Japanese pug from Sagamihara, Kamawaga, Japan who trained at the Wildcard Gym and sparred three times a week with WBC World Junior flyweight champion Rodel Mayol tonight won his fight at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
Okada (3-0-1,1KO) fought and beat a local boy from New York, McWilliam Arroyo (3-1-0, 3KO). Arroyo was previously unbeaten and won all his previous three fights decisively- two by KO and another by TKO.
The judges scores were 39-36, 38-37, 38-37.
Okada is best remembered by Pinoy fight fans as the guy who fought an upstart Filipino at the Las Vegas Hilton last February, Bruno Escalante and was held to a draw. Escalante is a prot?g? of Nonito Donaire.
Okada dropped Arroyo in round two with a hard right hand. Then in round 3 he cut Arroyo?s right eyebrow . Fortunately, for the New Yorker, his cutman was able to handle the cut and gave him one more round.
The Okada-Arroya fight was an undercard of the Calderon-Uribe WBO Junior flyweight title fight which incidentally was decided in favor of The scores on that fight were: 118-109, 118-109 and 116-111.
