Expect another explosive Saturday in Zamboanga City as Congressman Erbie Fabian of the 2nd Congressional District will stage ?Rumble sa Jungle? with Philippines Games and Amusement Board light flyweight champion Marlon Tapales vs. Charlie Cabilla as the main event on June 12, 2010. The boxing show is Congressman Fabian?s way of expressing his gratitude to the people of Zamboanga for giving him fresh mandate after winning the May 10, 2010 election. This is Tapales? first defense of his Philippines GAB light flyweight champion title after his impressive stoppage of Warlito Parrenas on April 2010 at Mindanao Civic Center is Tubod, Lanao del Norte which clocked at 1min and 19 seconds. Another match lined up which will also bring Zamboanga to excitement is the 10-rounder between Marvin Mabait of Congressman Fabian?s Blue Stallion Stables and Arvin Ada. Mabait has an impressive record of 4-0-3 win-loss-draw record and is under heavy training because he has the prospects of making it as a world champion. He is a quick and heavy puncher and is Zamboanga;s favorite. A 10-round boxing bout will also be staged between Jefrey Jimenez and Roel Laguna plus curtain raisers would be the 3 pairs of 6rounders and a 4 rounder match. The said event is sanctioned by the regional Games and Amusement Board headed by Vic Cabalog. I was lucky to be invited to witness the said event together with my wife, Goody. World-class boxing promoters like Wakee Salud and Bong Yap are also expected to grace the said boxing event. Expect also the presence of all of Zamboanga?s local officials because they have always patronized the said sport and they hope to make Zamboanga City as the Sports City. Congressman Fabian is true-blue boxing enthusiast. He has always been vocal about his support for the sport and I am glad to have known a man who shares the same passion as me when it comes to boxing. People like Congressman Fabian will always keep the fire alive for boxing.
