HEY ZANFER, NEED A GOOD FIGHT? HOW ABOUT FERNANDO MONTIEL VS. NONITO DONAIRE, JR.? By Ed de la Vega, DDS PhilBoxing.com Mon, 31 May 2010 Reports indicate that Panama?s Rafael Concepcion turned down the offer by Fernando Beltran?s Zanfer Promotions to be matched against Fernando Montiel on July 17th. The Panamanian slugger is not worried about getting a fight thus he rejected the offer from Beltran which was said to be a very low $20,000. Besides he is rumored to replace Jorge Arce on June 26th perhaps for more money and meet up with Eric Morel in Texas. If that does not work out, he has a fight waiting for him on June 19th against Felipe Murillo in Panama. With that, potentially Montiel will now hang dry without an immediate fight to look forward to. Unless they get a patsy for him just to keep busy. Hey Beltran, I got a nice suggestion for you. Why not spend good money on Nonito Donaire Jr and put him up against Montiel? Donaire traditionally fights as a flyweight or even a super flyweight, so making 118 lbs to slug it out with Montiel won?t be a problem at all. Now, there?s a fight that will draw a huge crowd and a gigantic interest in the boxing world. You can put that up anywhere as I am positive Donaire will travel even to Mexico just to get his hands on Montiel. And, I have no doubt the two well respected boxers will be able to fill up the largest Plaza de Toros down there. Why even Corona or Tecate would jump at the opportunity of sponsoring such a huge fight, so money will not be a problem. You can even do the fight in the States and I am sure HBO will not even blink to get their hands on that fight. So what are you waiting for, Mr. Beltran? You are in good relationship with Top Rank so in all probability, they will allow Donaire to fight in your card. They may even co-promote it so money will even be better. I can see the ease in putting up this fight as you only have to deal really hard with Montiel. Donaire has no fear of the guy and if you offer him a decent amount of cash that fit his present status (hey the guy is no. 4 pound4pound), he will surely take the fight. I guess the only way you will fail is if Montiel will refuse the fight. I for one have a feeling that can happen because Montiel knows the Filipino Flash will blow him away. But there is nothing wrong with trying, so why not offer Montiel the fight and see what he has to say. I guess if you offer the right amount of cash, Montiel will take the fight. If he does not, then we can not fault you. We can only blame Montiel and with that, confirm that truly, he is scared of Donaire.
