BATAWANG, ALLANIC STOP FOES By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Mon, 19 Sep 2005 MANDAUE CITY--World-ranked Bert Batawang, the reigning WBA-Pan African light flyweight champ, knocked down ex-RP champ Eugene Gonzales thrice en route to an impressive technical knockout win at the 2:23 mark of the 5th round Saturday evening here. The southpaw Batawang, facing a naturally bigger opponent, wasted no time as he came out firing in the opening round, knocked down Gonzales twice in the second frame, and sent his foe once again on the seat of his pants in the fifth before referee Teddy Alivio waved off the fight. Gonzales ducks as Batawang delivers a left cross in this bit of action from yesterday's main event. "I ran out of stamina a little bit because of his heft, he was much bigger than me tonight," said Batawang, who improved to 35 wins, 11 losses , 3 draws with 28 KO's and solidified a planned crack at the IBF title of Will Grigsby. However, the night's most impressive performance belonged to Robert Allanic of the Cliff Smart Stable, who showed promise by knocking down Bukidnon's Janrey Verano in the opening round, then stepping up his attack to again sink his foe in the third for a technical knockout win at the 1:20 of the round. Robert Allanic connects with a left uppercut to the face of Janrey Verano. SGG fighter Along Dinoy, meanwhile, took an important unanimous decision win over a tough Nino Suelo, as he eked out a 96-94, 98-92, 98-92 victory. Manila's Jun Eraham, however, proved too much for local boy Isidro Balabat with a sixth-round TKO win. ALA Boys Rey Caitom and AJ Banal continued their winning march over Frederick Salde and Julius Cabusas, respectively. Caitom won via scores of 58-57, 58-56 and 59-55 while Banal stopped Cabusas with a big left at the 2:21 of the first round. The other results saw Arnel Tadena by unanimous decision over Rey Migre?o; Jun Intor by unanimous decision over Sonny Alfara; Milan Melindo by UD over Meljun Grumo; and the debuting Allan Yap by TKO in the 4th round over Echaro Vasquez.
