Bakbakan sa Bayawan Notes and Photos

PhilBoxing.com

Fight fans from the City of Bayawan, Negros Oriental were treated to a highly entertaining Philippine Boxing Federation Championship double header last Sunday. The fight card was offered free to the public and held at the picturesque Bayawan City Integrated Transport Terminal, Hotel Conference and Business Center Grounds
The Bayawanons enjoyed the non-stop action and amateur boxers from nearby towns provided the curtain raiser for the event.

Jesus Muzaka Singwangcha captured the Philippine Boxing Federation’s vacant junior lightweight title by defeating Jovie Merca of Butuan City via ten round unanimous decision. It was a dominant performance by Singwangcha who easily managed to neutralize Merca’s height and reach advantage and mauled his way to victory. The scorecards read – 98-92,97-94 and 98-92.
Muzaka entertained the crowd with his roughhousing style but he got under their skin when he showboated and trash talked at times. He celebrated his victory by yelling to the crowd, “Wakee Salud! Best gym in Cebu!”

Muzaka, whose birth name is Kibunde Kakonge, is from the Congo, a country in the heart of Africa. He fights out of Thailand under Naris Singwangcha but has been training in Rex “Wakee” Salud’s gym in Cebu for this bout.
The 30 year old Jesus Muzaka (17 W(KO 8) -L 8) is no stranger to fight fans in Cebu. Thailand’s Black Tiger fought in Cebu twice last year winning against Rey Labao for the WBO Asia-Pacific superfeatherweight title in Naga City and moved up to lightweight but lost to Czar Amonsot in a fight held at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City.

Muzaka actually was one the cornermen for Thai boxers Thittichon Singwancha and Pet Twin Gym when they got knocked out by ALA Boys James Bacon and Larry Canillas respectively during the January 2010 fight card held at the Waterfront Hotel. He was even seen watching a fight card in Talisay City last month.

In the co-main event, Jayson Egera Singwangcha of Siaton, Negros Oriental survived a fourth round knockdown to win the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation Junior Featherweight title over Gedion Amba of Cebu City via unanimous decision over ten rounds. The southpaw Egera-Singwangcha came out smoking but carelessly walked into a counter right and was knocked down in the fourth round. But after he survived the onslaught he dominated the rest of the fight landing the heavier punches. The scorecards read – 98-92,96-93 and 97-93.
Egera is a former WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion. He fought three times in Cebu last year. He lost his title to Jundy Maraon by third round knockout February 2009 at the Cebu Coliseum then won against Petch Kokietgym of Thailand by split decision in May only to lose in their rematch two months later also by split decision in Naga City.

In the undercards, Jestoni Pepito of Masbate defeated Jayson Geda of the Phil-Aust Gym of Mandaue City via unanimous decision in an eight round superbantamweight bout. The scores – 79-72, 78-73,79-72.
Marco Demecillo of Iligan City knocked out Jerome Bontog of the Phil-Aust Gym in the second round with a crippling hook to the liver in a superflyweight contest scheduled for 8 rounds. Official time – 1:13 of round 2.
Christian Saga of Cebu’s Wakee Gym won over Chaiyo Singwacha of Negros Oriental via UD in a four round bantamweight bout. The scores – 40-36 on all three judges.
Marlou Sandoval of Negros Oriental defeated Junrey Sta. Ana of Cebu’s Tibay Stable via unanimous decision in a four round jr.flyweight contest. The scorecards read – 38-37 all three judges.
Rex “Wakee” Salud, Aljoe Jaro, Bong Terania also attended the event. Generous Thai promoter Naris Singwangcha gave extra cash to the winners.

Another philboxing.com contributor, Chito Katangkatang was there. The event was supervised by Cebu City based GAB officials headed by Celso Miranda and Rolando Mendoza. We would like to thank the people of Bayawan for their hospitality and enthusiasm.
