Two more crucial contests for Donaire,Sr. By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Sun, 21 Feb 2010 Renowned trainer Nonito Donaire,Sr. will try to weave his magic once again for Ana ?The Hurricane? Julaton when she makes her bid for a third world title belt . The 29 year old Julaton (6W-1L-1D, 1 KO) will fight Lisa ?Bad News? Brown (16W-4L-3D, 5 KO?s) for the vacant WBA female superbantamweight title in Ontario, Canada this coming March 27, 2010. Julaton is based in Daly City, California and this fight is part of her quest to be the undisputed best 122 lb female boxer. Donaire,Sr. informed through e-mail that he already started training Julaton at the Kennel Boxing Gym in San Leandro, California. ?She was in excellent condition when I left for Las Vegas. I will be going back to California after Marvin Sonsona?s fight in Puerto Rico.? The 39 year old Brown is from Trinidad and Tobago and currently living in Ontario. She has previously won the International Female Boxers Association (IFBA) super bantamweight title and Women's International Boxing Association (WIBA) super bantamweight title. Last September 12, 2009, Donaire was in the corner of Julaton when she beat Kelsey Jeffries to win the IBA superbantamweight belt and made history by becoming the first female Filipino-American to win a world title. In December 2009, Julaton won a second world title by beating Donna Biggers by 10 round unanimous decision for the vacant WBO female superbantamweight title. Donaire,Sr. suffered a setback when Ciso Morales, who also trained at the Kennel Gym, was knocked out with a body punch by Mexico's Fernando Montiel in Las Vegas last February 13. Donaire is currently in Puerto Rico for Marvin Sonsona?s fight against hometown boy Wilfredo Vasquez,Jr. for the vacant WBO superbantamweight world title this February 28 (Manila Time). This will be a crucial title bout for Sonsona as his performance will also determine his future as a primetime performer and whether the Gensan southpaw is destined for bigger things. Last September 2009, Donaire joined forces with Jun Agrabio to steer Sonsona - who had never gone past the fifth round and whose name was known only to the die-hard local boxing aficionados - towards his WBO superflyweight title win against Jose ?Carita? Lopez of Puerto Rico. The fight was held in Casino Rama in Ontario, the site of Julaton vs Brown. Sonsona lost his title at the scales in his first defense but Donaire,Sr. finished 2009 on a high note when, together with Pingping Tepura, he orchestrated the WBO interim lt.flyweight title win of relative unknown Johnriel Casimero over Cesar Canchila of Colombia last December in Nicaragua.
