SINULOG SUMMIT FIGHT NIGHT: FUENTES KO?s ANCAYA IN THREE By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Mon, 18 Jan 2010 CEBU City ? The rains failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the locals and tourists who continued to dance in the streets of the Cebu City during its annual Sinulog Festival. The rains stopped just in time for an explosive ?SUMMIT FIGHT NIGHT BOXING SERIES?. Philippine flyweight champion Rocky Fuentes of the ALA Gym of Cebu pummelled Pit Ancaya of Metro Manila with punishing head and body shots from the opening bell. In the third round, Fuentes pinned Ancaya to the neutral corner and landed at will. Ancaya collapsed from the brutal fusillade and the referee mercifully stopped the contest at 39 seconds of the third round. This was a ten round non-title bout. Rising superflyweight prospect Marjun Yap of Cagayan de Oro scored a fifth round TKO win over Julius Agcopra of Manila in the co-main event. Yap moved and jabbed from a safe distance in the first round. He then started to find his range and landed harder punches. In the fifth, Yap scored at will and a series of unanswered punches dropped Agcopra near the neutral corner. The referee stopped the contest at 1:36 of the 5th. There were three six round bouts and three four rounders. Fernando ?Batang Bato? Ocon of the Rex Wakee Salud stable escaped with a majority decision win over Marjohn Macahilig of Kalibo, Akalan in a lt.flyweight contest. Macahilig had Ocon retreating from wicked head and body shots from the second round. But Ocon held his ground and continued to trade punches. He tried to mount a rally in the fifth and threw wild swings hoping to land a homerun punch. Ocon scored a flash knockdown in the 6th and final round. Macahilig got up and scored with right straights until the final bell. The scores: 57-56 and 58-55 for Ocon and 57-57. Zalde Aroa of Bantayan Island beat Paul Sasan of Bohol by unanimous decision in a four round flyweight bout. It was a give and take slugfest with Sasan knocked down in round one. The three judges scorecards read 39-36 all for Aroa. Kotsky Ebala of Cagayan de Oro won by majority decision over Roel Peligro of Bohol in an entertaining superflyweight brawl. The scores ? 39-38 and 39-37 for Ebala and 38-38.
