Z GORRES RECOVERY UPDATES By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Thu, 26 Nov 2009  Z Gorres is slowly but surely recovering eleven days after undergoing emergency neurosurgery in Las Vegas. Michael Aldeguer, President of ALA Promotions, has updated via e-mail that Gorres can now be placed in a sitting position. He can give you numbers one to four if instructed to. These are all good signs from a neurological standpoint. He does have mild pneumonia and one of the reasons why they could not wean him off the ventilator. Aldeguer also said that Gorres opened his eyes but still looks blank and is not aware of things. Hopefully, in the next few days he may gradually improve and be more aware of external stimuli. Pneumonia is a frequent complication in patients on prolonged assisted ventilation. But Gorres is being provided with the best medical care available. He still has a long road ahead but he is showing signs of improvement everyday. Once weaned from the ventilator, he will have to undergo physical therapy. Gorres will not be able to box again but he gave the Philippines another proud moment when he waved our flag after winning his fight against Luis Melendez of Colombia.
