PACQUIAO SAVORS MOMENT WITH FAMILY By Eddie Alinea PhilBoxing.com Mon, 23 Nov 2009 Pacquiao savors moments with family By EDDIE G. ALINEA Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao continued savoring his recent 12th round techical knockout victory over Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto exactly a week ago last Sunday (Manila) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. That win, his 50th in a 14-year career and his 38th via stoppage, gifted him a historic seventh title in seven weight divisions, cemented his reign as world?s best pound-for-pound fighter and crowning him the greatest in this era. And for that, as he always does, he thanked God, most of all, for all the graces He had given him and his countryman for their continued support in terms of prayers. ?Hight sa lahat, maraming sa Panginoon sa kanyang patuloy na pagbibigay sa akin ng lahat ng grasyang napapasakamay ko,? he said without having been a broken record. ?Maraming salamat din sa inyong lahat, sa lahat ng inyong dasal, pagmamahal at suporta at kung hindi dahil sa inyo, hindi ko po siguro kayang abutin ang mga bagay na atin nang natanggap at natatamasa sa kasalukuyan, he said days after his arrival. ? Opo, ito ang bagong world record sa boxing,? he said repeatedly. Tracing his carer since starting at 108 pounds and winning the world flyweight, super-bantamweight and featherweight divisions early in his caxreer, Pacquiaoi, who will turn 31 next month, said he cherishes the memory of those crown conquests. What he cannot forget, he added, is the past one- and-a-half years when he crowned himself the world?s super-featherweight, lightweight, super-lightweight and the present welterweight belt-holders Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz, Ricky Hatton and Cotto, as well as annihilation of legendasry Oscar Dela Hoya one after another since March 2009. Pacquiao admitted his victory over the former Puerto Rican world welterweight champion did not come as easy assa other would believe it was. ?Labis po talaga ang hirap na dinanas ko sa laban na ito. Namaga po ang aking tainga at talaga namang isa sa pinakamahirap kong nakalaban simula pa noong ako ay natutong magboksing,? he reminisced. Pacquiao first visited his hometown General Santos City a day after his, wife Jinkee?s and his team?s arrival last Friday. He was accorded with the Order of Sikatuna by no less thatn President macaxpagaxl-Arroyo that night. Another hero's welcome greeted him in Sarangani Province despite his father-in-law's earlier statement that they will boycott Pacquiao over the ?Krista Ranillo? controversy. At the twn plaza yesterday, the Pacman presided over the oath taking of the new members of his political party, ?People's Champ Movement? which he hopes will carry him in his planned candidacy for Sarangaxni?s lone congressional district in next year?s national elections.
