'HAMON SA KAMPEON' PRESSCON IN CEBU By Rene Bonsubre, Jr. PhilBoxing.com Wed, 14 Oct 2009 Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista (26 W -2 L , 19 KO’S) and Marangin Marbun (19 W -5 L-1 D, 7 KO’s) of Indonesia both predicted knockouts for their 12 round interim WBC International Featherweight title bout this Friday during the press conference held Wednesday noon at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug, Cebu City. Marbun’s trainer predicted that his fighter will knock Bautista out in ten rounds. But Boom Boom said that the fight will not reach ten rounds. Trainer Edito Villamor said that comparing Bautista’s wrist injury to his when he was still fighting, Bautista had a better chance of recovering because the medical technology now is better. Czar Amonsot ( 19 W-3 L-1 D, 11 KO’s) and Jesus Muzaka Singwancha (16W-7L, 8 KO’S) , the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific jr.lightweight champion, got to see each other face to face for the first time. Muzaka is originally from the Congo but now fights out of Thailand. Amonsot said that he saw a tape of Muzaka’s win against Rey Labao last July in Naga, Cebu and he is confident that he can beat Muzaka. Prior to the press conference, Muzaka told this writer that he has been sparring with southpaws and he is ready for Amonsot. He does not predict a round but he is confident he can knockout Amonsot. They will fight each other in a ten round non-title bout. Marjun Yap (11 W – 2 L, 5 KO’s) of Cagayan de Oro will face Pramuansak Posuwan Kokietgym ( 45 W-3 L-1 D, 24 KO’S) , a world ranked Thailander who lasted 12 rounds in a losing effort against Jose”Carita” Lopez of Puerto Rico. But Yap is unfazed by Posuwan’s credentials. Posuwan is also a former Olympian but last July in Naga he lost to Federico Catubay by eight round split decision. The Thailander said that he is out to redeem himself. Jason Pagara (18W – 1L, 10 KO’s) will fight another Thai Decha Bakluaygym (29 W-9 L-3 D, 24 KO’s). Pagara needs to win because there are plans to bring him to the U.S. There are four other supporting bouts: lt.flyweights Marjohn Macahilig vs Lauro Roque 6 rounds, lt. flyweights Jomar Cordinillo vs Fernando Okon 6 rounds, jr.featherweights Romnick Hoybia vs Edison Berwela 4 rounds, Jefferson Reodeque vs JR Salvador 4 rounds. Weigh-in will be Thursday morning at the SM Cebu City Entertainment Center. This fight card is co-promoted by the Kokiet group of Thailand and will be aired there live. Gates at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel open at 4pm and fight time is 5 pm. The fights will be televised on Studio 23.
