PROPOSED DIAZ-SUICO FIGHT FIZZLES OUT By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 21 Dec 2008 ![]() Cebu City -- The proposed David Diaz vs Randy Suico slugfest in the undercard of the double world championship event on March 15 at the Araneta Coliseum featuring Montiel-Donaire and Solis-Viloria was aborted yesterday when Suico was upset by his Japanese challenger Ichitaro Ishii in Japan last night. Reports coming out of Japan indicated that Ishii fought smart as he kept moving to avert the vaunted powerful shots of the Cebuano bomber and won by split decision after 12 rounds of their OBPF lightweight bout. Ishii scored on counters and cleverly moved side to side refusing to mixed it up with the favorite Suico. The judges' scores were 115-113, 117-110 and 113-114 in Ishii's favor. Former WBC world lightweight champion David Diaz who is in the country upon the invitation of Filipino superstar Manny Pacquiao, told mediamen in Cebu last night he was willing to fight Suico as long as an agreement could be reach between his promoter Top Rank and Suico's handlers. Rex 'Wakee' Salud, who tried to arranged the Diaz-Suico tiff, said that after Suico's loss last night, he is now looking into the possibility of pitting Suico against Thai knockout sensation Saddam Kietyongyuth who had been relentlessly calling out Suico's name. The no-fear Saddam (17-0-0 13KOs) demolished former Pacquiao foe Serikzhan Yeshmagambetov of Kazakhstan via 5th round TKO Friday night in Surat Thani, Thailand.
