GUARDO: "PACMAN WILL GO FOR HISTORY" PhilBoxing.com Tue, 18 Nov 2008 LOS ANGELES--Sportsman Jonathan Guardo of Cebu, one of the sporting pillars of the country, believes that pound-for-pound topnotcher Manny Pacquiao will go for history in his monumental fight against the great Oscar De la Hoya on Dec. 6 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. "I think he (Pacquiao) has superior strength and speed to overwhelm De la Hoya. I think this fight is one between a boxer on his way up and gaining momentum and a boxer who is in the twilight of his career," opines Guardo, a many-time Sportsman of the Year awardee. Pacquiao and De la Hoya gut it out over 12 rounds in a non-title showdown at 147 lbs that has the fans all over the world talking and raving about it. Guardo points out that De la Hoya is one of the greatest ever to don the fight gloves, "but time is not on his side, his peak was over. He will be slower and his punches won't hurt Manny." Pacquiao continues to train at the Wild Card Gym under Freddie Roach, while De la Hoya sweats out in a camp in Big Bear supervised by the legendary Nacho Beristain and Hall of Famer Angelo Dundee. "This is Manny's time. His last few fights honed him well for this fight. He will do everything up his sleeves to win this fight," Guardo added.
