GONZALES vs LOPEZ, ROCHA vs DOMINGO AT MORONGO CASINO NOV. 21

PhilBoxing.com

LOS ANGELES, November 14 - Former World Champion Jhonny Gonzalez returns to Southern California to headline Golden Boy Promotions' card on Friday, November 21st at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Cabazon, California. Local rising star Nestor Rocha will be the co-featured bout of the televised fights on Telefutura's 'Solo Boxeo'.

The exciting evening of boxing is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate and Ford Motor Company. The main event features a 12 round WBC Latino Super Bantamweight bout with Gonzalez taking on Colombian veteran Reynaldo Lopez and in the co-feature, Rocha squaring off against tough Filipino Michael Domingo in a 10 round bantamweight battle.

Tickets, priced at $35, $75 and $125, can be purchased at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa Box Office at (951) 755-5391 or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Doors open at 4:00pm and the first bell rings at 4:30pm. The TeleFutura 'Solo Boxeo' broadcast begins at 8pm ET / PT (delayed on the west coast).

Former WBO World Bantamweight Champion, Mexico City's Jhonny Gonzalez (39-6, 33 KOs), is an exciting warrior with dynamite in his fists who needs a big victory on November 21st in order to keep himself in line to fight for the WBC World Super Bantamweight title in 2009. Owner of wins over the likes of Mark Johnson, Fernando Montiel and Irene Pacheco, the 27-year-old Gonzalez is currently on a five-fight winning streak that includes four consecutive knockouts. In his last bout, on August 1st, Gonzalez halted Leivi Brea in a single round, a success he would love to match against Reynaldo Lopez (30-5-2, 21 KOs), a late bloomer who seems to be coming into his own at the age of 35. Lopez issued highly touted and unbeaten Mike Oliver his first pro loss via a third round TKO in May.

Seen by most observers as one of the best bantamweights in the United States today, Montebello, California's Nestor Rocha (20-1, 7 KOs) has made his mark domestically. Now that he's cracked the WBO's top ten, Rocha is looking to make a statement on the international scene on November 21st with a win over the Philippines' Michael Domingo (37-14-2, 16 KOs), who has won six in a row and most recently halted Former World Champion Ratanachai Sor Vorapin in nine rounds in September.

Undefeated prospects will be in action on November 21st as Las Vegas rising star Cortez Bey (8-0, 5 KOs) against well-regarded Los Angeles junior welterweight Demetrio Soto (5-0, 4 KOs) in a six round bout; and San Francisco heavyweight Ashanti Jordan (6-0, 5 KOs) who will take on San Diego's Lawson Baker (5-4-1, 2 KOs) in a six rounder.

Local unbeatens will also be on display as Scotland native fighting out of Hollywood Craig McEwan (12-0, 7 KOs) returns to the ring in a middleweight contest against hard-hitting Pomona prospect Ivan Stovall (10-2, 7 KOs); recent Golden Boy Promotions signee Charles Huerta (7-0, 4 KOs) of Paramount, California plans on notching win number eight in a featherweight eight rounder against Tijuana's Trinidad Mendoza (22-16-2, 17 KOs); and opening the show will be a four round junior welterweight matchup between South Gate's Daniel Hernandez (3-0, 3 KOs) and Los Angeles' Odilon Rivera (5-14-3, 3 KOs).
