THIS MOSLEY IS NO SHANE

PhilBoxing.com

Cabazon, CA: Tonight at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa located in this high desert town near Palm Springs, the Golden Boy Promotions in cooperation with Cerveza Tecate held a boxing card. The event was televised on Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo Tecate”, a boxing card shown every Friday night.

Headlining the fight card was a 10 round match between Larry Mosley of the Watts area in Los Angeles (15-3-2, 6KO) and Saul Alvarez (22-0-1 (15KO) of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Mosley is a relative of Shane Mosley, the WBA Inter-Continental light Middle weight champion. In fact, Shane came to the fight with his wife and children to support Larry.

Larry Mosley however proved to be a disappointment. From the beginning, he was very tentative with his punches and he seldom used his right hand. He landed a very few punches and his power shots were far and in between.

Alvarez on the other hand was more accurate and heavy handed. With a huge crowd of supporters shouting encouragement from the front row oftentimes yelling his nickname, “Canelo”, Alvarez kept his relentless attack on Mosley.

The fight ended with a unanimous decision for Alvarez with the judges scoring 96-94,

99-91, and 97-93 all for Alvarez. The result was a clear indication that the guy that showed up tonight to fight Alvarez is a Mosley, but he ain’t no Shane.

In the supporting main event, Junior featherweight Antonio Escalante (18-2-0, (12KO) smashed a very highly regarded Mike Oliver (21-2-0, 7KO).

Escalante, using a swarming offense knocked down Oliver three times in round 1 and finished him off with a body shot at :33 of round 3. The scheduled 12 round fight was for the NABO title.
