CASA WINS IN TANZA BOXING

PhilBoxing.com

Armand Casa pounded Alfred Nagal for six rounds before the referee mercifully stopped the fight in their flyweight bout scheduled for ten rounds. The bout was last night’s main event of the card dubbed “Pa-Boksing sa Pista ni Tata Usteng 2008” held at the Arayata Sports Complex in Tanza, Cavite.

Casa started strong in the first round whose crosses just can’t miss hitting the head of Nagal whose hand guard was just too loose for those punches to go through. In the second round, Casa continued to connect with the same shots while Nagal just cannot penetrate Casa’s high guard, his shots landing mostly on the latter’s gloves. The two fighters mixed it up in the third with Casa beating Nagal to the punch. Casa had a slip in this round and thinking that he hurt the former, Nagal mounted a fierce offensive forcing Casa to cover himself up. Though Casa’s defense appeared to hold up well, a lot of Nagal’s punches were dangerously slipping through the former’s gloves hitting Casa’s head.

Casa somehow managed to keep himself out of trouble and moments later staggered Nagal with a right uppercut. Seconds before the end of the round, a big Casa right hook to the chin sent Nagal to his knee getting a mandatory eight count. At the start of the fourth round, Casa decked Nagal for the second time with a right uppercut to the jaw. Casa continued the pounding in the fifth round and even though Nagal tried to fight back, the two-time Philippine light-flyweight championship challenger could not hurt the bigger Casa who usually fights at the super-flyweight level. A hard right uppercut to the chin sent Nagal staggering through the ropes in the sixth round and soon enough, Casa was hitting him at will prompting Referee Silvestre Abainza to step in and stop the punishment. Time of the stoppage was 1:01 of the 6th.

For the results of the other bouts:

Dennis Padua defeated Jerson Estoro by a split decision in their 4-round super-lightweight bout (two judges scored 39-37 for Padua and the third judge had it 37-39 for the muay thai fighter Estoro);

Arnel Turko defeated Martin Brencis by a UD (two judges had it 40-37 while the third judge had it 39-38);

Kid Balongcas defeated Jessie Caballes by a UD (two judges had it 39-36 while the third judge had it 40-35); and

Leonardo Talisic, Jr. figured in a majority draw with Wilber Andogan (38-38 for two judges and 39-38 for the third judge).

Roger Garabiles promoted the event and was assisted by matchmaker Ronald Jerez. The event drew support from the local government of Mayor Kuh-Kuh Arayata and ABC President Gen-Gen Arayata.
